Mandalay Refuge Nature Trail

Mandalay Nature Trail is dog-friendly. Bring your leashed dog to explore the Refuges's waterways and wetlands, bordered by an upland oak-cypress-gum ridge, which provides an opportunity to view a wide array of wildlife. The Mandalay Refuge Nature trail is a good place to see and hear songbirds and perhaps catch a glimpse of a gator. Visitors to the Refuge enjoy fishing the canals and trenasses. This 3/4 mile long out and back nature trail will take you through various habitats to a boardwalk over wetlands and a wetland overlook. Access to trail is located at the end of a gravel service road, .7 miles west of the Refuge field office on the south side of Bayou Black Drive (Hwy 182) Visit Website

Nice trail with alligator/bird viewing area

This was a very nice dog friendly in and out trail leading to a wooden deck with railings to view alligators and birds. There are old signs identifying the types of birds...we did spot one alligator, some egrets and ducks. We came back a few times while staying in Houma a few days as there was really no where else to take our dog on a hike.
