The park was nice and big. However, there were a lot people who had not picked up after their dogs. So sad people don’t take care of what they have.
- RichardAug 31, 2022Pit bulls
My baby has been bitten twice by large aggressive dogs that were not pit bulls. So I tried going very early. There was a man with two large pit bulls. Guess I can’t take by my dog to this park any more…
- AllysonOct 4, 2021Muddy but fun
We are on vacation checking out dog parks in cities we stay. Loved this park. It is very big, pet owners were friendly and responsible. It was muddy and my dogs played in it.
- SallyJul 20, 2021John Stiff Memorial Dog Park
Neat place with LOTS of room to roam. The pup had a great time meeting other dogs and chasing her ball. The entire park is lovely, and you need to be sure to see the prairie dogs!
- SallyJul 18, 2021Dusty Fun
It was a bit windy and dusty when we stopped through in January, but it was just what we needed to stretch our long legs.
- StormeJun 21, 2021Overall - Good
I agree with the previous review that it is extremely hard to find the entrance to the dog park! There are no signs that will direct you and Apple Maps brings you near the tennis center at the park- not the dog park. Overall, we like the park and continually come back because it’s large. However there are several big areas that are not grassy so we never come after it has rained as it will definitely be muddy. The water fountain doesn’t work properly so I recommend bringing your own water for your pup.

we enjoyed this dog park on our road trip
- AngelaApr 11, 2021So hard to find
Took a few wrong turns to find but this park was huge. Lots of big pups so mine fit right in. Definitely worth the hunt.
- AbigailMar 26, 2021Fine, but not great
This park was mostly dirt and there was a lot of mud. I was driving across the country with my German Shepherd so having to wash his legs was inconvenient. I was a little disappointed that there was very little if any grass because so much of the rest of this park was grass fields, was tempted to just play fetch with my dog in one of the many open grass areas.
- BrennaDec 3, 2020Huge Park, So Much Poop
great park, absolutely huge with a small pond and plenty of trees. very disappointed in the amount of owners who choose not to pick up their dogs waste. if it had been clean this park would have been perfect.
- MichelleAug 28, 2020Nice
We had the whole park to ourselves. nice place to stop when passing through Amarillo.
- StacyApr 8, 2020Pandemic Visit
The dog park is currently closed but there is plenty of grassy open space next to it. As long as your dog has good recall it’s a great place to let them run and play. Just take your own bags please to keep it nice for the next folks. Thanks
- DanaeFeb 27, 2019Great Area, A few Lazy Owners
The park itself is great! There is some sade, benches surrounding the open area, and a watering station. I wish owners would clean up after their pets, but that is a problem everywhere, not just at this park. There are a few regulars that have no business bringing their dogs (aggression and possible fighting), but I always leave when there seems to be a problem animal coming in. This is not the place for small dogs, some bigger dogs will keep picking on them. My chihuahua does NOT come with me when I come here. Plenty of space for a game of fetch away from the crowd and for a large dog to stretch their legs. 4.5/5.
- Lisa bishoffJan 16, 2019We Always Stop Here On Our Drive Cross County
There are always dogs for ours to play with. Lots of room for them to run. It’s easy, convenient and people are friendly.
- MaggieDec 31, 2018Good For Road Trips
We stopped here twice on our way through town - it’s a great spot to let your dog out for a stretch. Large and well maintained.
We’ve only ever been here in the morning so I don’t know what kind of dogs or owners are usually here.

We have dog that doesn't like to "go" on a leash. This park was great. Not far off the main highway and opens early and closes late. I would caution about visiting at 10pm on a Saturday night... The park was full of teens racing up and down the streets. It was 15 degrees out so I'm sure on nice nights it's even more populated.

I have stopped going to this park because of the aggressive dogs at the park...Not all are but 1 is way too many, there are many pets not neutered and I have seen several dogfight and 1 where the dog had to be taken to the vet from injuries. I do not recommend this park at all.
- NealMore than a year agoGood spot. I would go again.
Owner of a 90lb lab. Great spot for day 2 of a cross country trip. After 20 hours of driving it was a good relief for the dog. It's quite large and what you would expect for a park in North Texas.

Traveling cross country with a 90lb labGreat little dog park for North Texas. Highly recommend for any dog size.
- CarolMore than a year agoOpen late and well lit
After 2 long days drive on our way to Phoenix our 2 Aussies were going stir crazy in hotels and needed a good run. We got in after 8 so went around 9pm and it was well lit and safe place to run. The dog park section was a bit difficult to find in the dark and we weren't exactly sure where the entrance was, so we walked around the fenced enclosure until we found the entrance. It seems to be open at all hours (meaning no locks on gates). Dogs got their run and are now well rested! Relieved to find a place later in the evening!!

We greatly appreciated this dog park after driving all day. The park was a little hard to find because the entry sign was dark with age. The park grounds were uneven and muddy from rain. Still recommend because it is friendly and big enough to get Fido a run.
- DebbieMore than a year agoawesome
I just travelled cross country with my daughter and her dog, we saw a lot of dog parks!! This was our favorite!! So many nice dogs, it was a huge beautiful park and it has lights for night time. There are a lot of ball parks and busy things going on all around it so it's not in a creepy part of town after dark.
- KierstenMore than a year agoHere is the Address
Typical park- good for a leg stretch. The dog park is tucked inside a big park called Southwest Park. The larger park has an address which you can enter into your GPS: 4800 Bell St.
- RachelMore than a year agoperfect mid road trip stretch break
This park was just perfect for us. Located inside a larger park with playgrounds and grassy areas, this was a large fenced in area. It's of space for big and all dogs alike. There were about six big shady trees, with benches underneath.
- TheresaMore than a year agoBig Enough for Big Dogs
Great park for letting your big dogs stretch their legs during a trip. Well fenced with the holding pen at the opening (which I love). Parking isn't convenient here, though. I parked along the street beside the park near the entrance. My dogs had a great time!
- JeffMore than a year agoGreat park
Huge open space for ripping around. Our Vizsla had a great time.
- ChanaMore than a year agoHad a great time
Driving through from Colorado to Tyler Texas. Stopped both ways to let the dogs stretch their legs at the dog park. It was great. Wonderful people, dogs, large fenced area, water - just great!
- RuebyMore than a year agoNice park in a nice park!
This is a review of the John Stiff Memorial Dog Park located in Southwest Park, Amarillo TX. This is a nice dog park located in a really nice city park. Lots of room to walk around on-leash and a nice sized enclosure for off-leash play. There are a few benches, doggie water fountain, plastic tunnel, clean up bags/trash cans and lots of room to run. There is no separate small dog area. We were there on a Monday afternoon and there were about 7 or 8 other dogs but I imagine this park gets busy on the weekend! You can enter southwest park from either Bell St or SW 45th Ave (we found it by typing Bell St and 48th ave in the GPS). The park road is a loop, so once you are in the park just keep driving and you will see the dog park (it is right next to the road - the nearest parking lot is across the street from the park so most people park on the road). We met some nice people and my dog had a great time running around, we will definitely visit this dog park again!
