LaPine State Park

LaPine State Park is a scenic dog-friendly area situated on the Upper Deschutes River in La Pine, OR. A quiet, shaded campground connects to over fourteen miles of multi-use trails. This centrally located park also provides access to Deschutes National Forest, Newberry Crater and Lava River Cave. Head to the "Big Tree" day-use area to marvel at Oregon's largest Ponderosa Pine tree which is thought to be 500 years old. Enjoy year-round camping or cozy up in one of five pet-friendly log cabins. A fenced, off-leash pet exercise area is a short walk from the campground. Visitors in winter can enjoy snowshoeing alongside Fido, while Spring and Fall are best for those hoping to see wildlife. Lots of Cool Things to Do

We had a blast camping out at La Pine. On a hot day, floating down the river in my tube was refreshing. However, the current can get pretty fast, and you need to watch out for fallen trees.

The dog park was sizable and well-kept. All of the trails we hiked were dog-friendly.

The bathrooms were surprisingly clean, thanks to the camp hosts.

Big Red — the largest ponderosa pine in the world — is a must-see! They weren’t kidding when they said Big Red was big. The trail to this colossal pine is short, which makes it an easy hike.

La Pine is also close to Lava Lands Visitor Center and Newberry Volcanic National Monument, two dog-friendly locations that I also recommend visiting.
