    Awesome Park until....

We took our to dogs to the oakwood dog park this morning. The dogs had a blast running and playing and barking at everything. They played for an hour when a woman in a walker brought her two dogs in. She had trouble handling the dogs as she was not steady on her own feet. Her smallest dog snipped and bit my smallest dog. She said she was sorry but showed no sign of leaving since we were there first. She was clearly going to stay. I decided in the safety of my dogs, I would take them and leave. My husband and I like this park for the dogs but if your dog is feisty and has a tendancy to bite or snip at other dogs, PLEASE don't bring them to a park for socializing

    Nice bark park!

I haven’t visited a dog park that had as many trees as this one! People leave water and toys for the dogs to play with! There are also bags for the dogs if they need them! Theres also a fun tire toy for the dogs to play with/on!

Nice clean park, friendly dogs and friendly people

We started visiting the park every weekend in early spring 2016. The park is clean, dogs are well behaved, and people are friendly. Medium size dogs can easily mingle with large dogs in the large dog area. The small dog area is a bit small and empty most of the time we visited. It must be for really tiny animals.

    very nice!

Great park with some structures for the dogs to play with, and a nice mix of dirt, grass, and wooded area. All the dogs there were well mannered and friendly. There were a handful of unpicked poops though.

One of the best in Central Illinois

This dog park is actually located at Oakwood Park on Main St just to the north of Morton City limits. Best way to find it: north of Walmart put on the country. :)
Oakwood Park boasts a large playground, covered pavilion, real bathrooms, and a very large dog park.
The dog park features two fenced areas. One for smaller dogs with trees, picnic table and garbage can with clean-up bags.
The other area is very large, a few acres at least. Garbage cans with clean-up bags are placed on perimeter fences. This are has very large flat areas and some hills and ravines, lots of trees and fallen logs, a big tire obstacle, picnic tables, a concrete pad with a doggy/human water fountain and a fire hydrant that sprays water when you push the button.
Both areas share portion of the fence on one side so little dogs can still socialize with the bigger ones without being too intimidated. I take my timid basset puppy in the small section to allow her to socialize with full grown dogs without being too overwhelmed. It's a great way to safety socialize puppies as well.
There's a shared gated entrance to both areas to prevent dogs escaping while the inner gate is open.
Morton park district and police are pretty good about enforcing the no aggressive/violent dog policy. I know there was one owner with an aggressive Rottweiler that didn't take the first warning seriously and was fined, banned from the park for life, and made to pay the vet bills of the dog it injured.
If you have any issues with other owners and/or dogs, you can call the morton police department or morton park district.
Most dog owners are very polite and only bring their friendly dogs. They are quick to notify if their dog plays rough, or is in training, etc. So please do the same with your own pet when visiting the park.
The only addition this park needs is a second water fountain in the small dog area. :)
