    Nice park!

we have been traveling all over the US for the past month. this is one of the best we’ve been to. there is Sun, shade, big trees and very little dog poop, compared to where I’ve been.

    Barely got in the gate

People were gathered together not paying any attention to their pets. An aggressive dog charged at us and it took three of us to get him back so we could leave. Nobody even looked or claimed their dog. Bad experience, not going back.

    Irresponsible Owners

My Fiance was recently at the park playing with our dog minding their own business. Then all of the sudden a bigger dog runs and attacks our dog unprovoked. Terrified and confused in the moment, my fiance tried to grab our dog to save him and was bit in the process. Both my dog and my fiance had blood everywhere, the owner sees this, quickly grabs her dog, and runs away. My fiance goes to the hospital and receives rabies shots, we get a $30,000 bill and it's not covered by insurance, when in reality the other dogs owner should be paying for this. We will never go back to this park.

    needs work

I have been to most of the dog parks in the Kansas City area. In comparison, this park is terrible. Dog owners do not pick up the dog poop, however, this is probably due to the lack of dog waste bags. There is a water fountain inside the park, it doesn’t work. This has been a long standing problem.

    Great Space

I think it is a great space! The parking lot needs expansion though as there are not many off leash parks in the great KC metro. The problem here are the irresponsible pet owners. I was there with my two Bulldogs (20 months & 6 months old) yesterday for the first time. My female has a submissive personality and it must be something other dogs notice. She was harrassed by other dogs and owners where nowhere to be found. If they were around, they were too busy talking to their peers to notice their dogs were either humping, biting or dragging my dog around. One of them was dragging my dog by her cheeks. I had to hold the dog by its collar for several minutes before the owner finally showed up. Another dog, a Rottweiller, was biting my 6 month old puppy. I picked him up and the dog started jumping up to catch my dog. I was screaming and the owner was too busy talking. Another dog owner interefered, got the dog away from me and the woman thought her dog was doing nothing wrong. There were several dog fights. Owners interfered but did not leave the park with their somewhat aggressive dogs. NO ONE picks up after their dogs which should be mandatory.

    Great location in Midtown/Crossroads

The dog park at Penn Valley park is a great place to take your dog if you live or are visiting anywhere near the center of KC, MO. The park is located just south of downtown next to Liberty Memorial. The park is safe and easily accessed.

The dog park is split into a large general section and a smaller small dog park for dogs under 40 lbs. The main section is large with lots of area for dogs to run and play. There are some nice large trees providing shade and a couple of water fountains for dogs and people alike. There are a couple benches and some picnic tables. There tend to be plenty of dogs to play with and it is rather active. The small dog section consists of a large, unshaded hill and has a bench and picnic table. It's well maintained but could use shade. there is also no water in this section and no gate at the bottom of the hill (just one entrance). The parking lot is nice but tends to get full on nice days. there is additional parking at the bottom of the hill and throughout the park that just require a bit of walking. A portapotty is the only bathroom facility.
