Clean and open with good parking

I'm not sure why this dog park has gotten such a bad review. It is a better dog park than most in the area. It is open and I've always found it clean. Children are not allowed but this is common.

    Slightly better than pitiful.

The only good thing I can say about this park is that it's better than nothing. If there are only two or three dogs in the park at a time it isn't too bad, but the park is too small to accommodate more than that in each area at a time. The entrance to the dog park was poorly designed. You have to walk a long, narrow gated path that leads into the park. If someone is leaving the park area with their dog(s) as you are entering it with yours, there is a significant risk of being bitten. I have seen several dogs fights in this area. Also, because the entrance to the park runs along the entire length of the park fence, many dogs pace it and growl and bite at the dogs entering and leaving the park. There are gaps in the fence for dogs to get out of the park. I have seen people (myself included) put chairs in front of these gaps to prevent their dogs from getting through or going under the fence. The wood chips are a health hazard for the dogs. They are sharp. My dog's paw was cut and bled because of them. Dogs love to chew on these chips. Here's a news flash - DOGS LOVE TO CHEW WOOD! I see dogs chewing on these wood chips all the time. Pieces splinter off in their mouths, which then bleed. But worse than that, they swallow these wood chips, which is very dangerous and can cause internal damage. This isn't the worst dog park I have ever seen, but it's among the worst. With all the great parks in the Town of Cortlandt, and with exorbitant taxes we pay, I would think the TOC could do a hell of a lot better than this park for our dogs. They've given the majority of the parks to the kids, which is great, but it's time to do something better for our pets.
