  Planning to go....

  I haven't been here yet but plan to take my super aggressive dog there . Just kidding, but when you read aggressive you probably thought pitbull right? I've owned large and small breed dogs my whole life and am currently working with mine to do off leash and agility training. I have been taking him, a (rescue) shepherd mix, to a dog park in Westchester every week for over a year and it amazes me that people still think the problem is pitts and rotties. I had 3 Rottweilers growing up and they're like big cows. Pitts are very energetic and require exercise and discipline but that doesn't make them aggressive. My old roommate of several years had 2 pitts so I get their personalities.

  It seems many of the issues at the dog parks are the direct result of nervous owners and breeds which we all think are calm family dogs. About a month ago, and for the first time, I was attacked by a dog at the park. It was a grey male standard poodle named Jessie who didn't like that I stopped giving him treats (the owner was present and of course i asked before giving the dog treats). Conversely, the most even tempered dog at the park is Logan, a 100lb half pitt half mastiff. If you're going to make any changes at the park, you'd be better off banning the owners who step in and pull dogs away once any dog starts barking or playing rough. Here's why: A) your anxiety does more harm than good and B) grabbing any dog by the head or neck is just asking to get bit.

  Stop crowding the dogs and let them play. If there's a fight, a real fight, grab the dog by the hind legs and pull them back. I hope Claire from Suffern and many others who agree with her get this message because it will ultimately benefit all those who enjoy the dog park. I hope to see folks over there. I'll be the one with the grey sweatshirt that has a hole in the arm from a poodle.........not a pitt.

  All you need from a dog park. 9/2013

  Parking is close to the dog area and there is a sunny side and shady side with benches. The only dogs I ever see have problems are the ones who have owners that are tense and waiting for a fight to break out. Aggressive dogs are not allowed but I have seen poodles nastier than some pits so the idea of banning an entire breed is narrow minded,especially since some rescue groups bring a few fosters here Know your dog, use common sense, and relax so your dog Isn't on guard and even gone should get along just fine.

  The dog park is a great idea and a wonderful place to bring your dog. There are plenty of toys and water bowls to accommodate plenty of people. So far everyone that we have met has been very friendly with well tempered dogs. However, my only complaint is that there is a white Akita that is quite temperamental and I have personally seen it go after a few dogs among chasing one of my kids who was frightened. There is a sign right on the gate that states no aggressive dogs allowed, and uet this dog among pitbulls and Rottweilers thaqt keep coming to the park. I personally feel they should be banned from this dog park as well as many others that agree with me,
