American Tobacco Trail

The American Tobacco Trail is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization that is working to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors. Previously an unused railroad corridor, this "rail-trail" is now a great place to walk Fido in Apex! The map below shows a parking area with convenient access to the American Tobacco Trail. Rails-to-Trails Conservancy has generously provided map data for this trail to Bring Fido for informational purposes only. For more detailed trail information, please visit TrailLink.com. Better for biking

This is a wide paved trail that was converted from a rail line. We came in at the White Oak entrance and headed north. Bicyclists are allowed, so we had to make way for them a lot. The part of the trail we were on was mostly bordered by sub-developments set not very far back in the woods, so the scenery wasn’t great (though we did see a box turtle crossing the trail). No water or poop disposal stations. Probably a great trail to bike on, but don’t think I’ll take my pup back.
