    Dog friendly trail

Finding parking is a nightmare, there is barely any on a weekday - let alone weekend. Even if you drive down and across the block, there are permit only parking.

I do recommend coming earlier around 7am to 8:30am if you want to find a parking spot. But when you are all done parking - the hike is actually pleasant!

There is one trail and you can go through two different ways. There is also a unmarked trail that is for the most part beyond the off leash dog area. Yes plenty of off dog leash areas and water fountain and benches.

This is the most dog friendly trail I have ever come across minus the foxtail and rattle snakes on some parts of the trail.

    Great hike

Parking here is a nightmare, even on weekdays. But once you get to the park it is a great hike. My pup is a little older but can still make it all the way up without a problem. We prefer taking the paved way versus the stairs. Would 100% consider keeping your dog ON a leash here.

    Runyon is Great!

We really love this central city get away. It's probably one of the most popular places to bring dogs in all of LA.

    best on cool days

my dog and I love Runyon. however, it does get really hot up in the hills in the summer and can be dangerous for those with heavy and dark coats. the park does have a couple water stations but I definitely recommend bringing a lot of water for yourself and your pup. we have encountered mostlly responsible pet owners but once or twice seen mild dog fights with off-leash doggies. i always keep mine on a leash because of this.

all in all, it's a fun hike and dogs get lots of chances to interact w/ nature, wildlife and other dogs. and what dog doesn't love that?
