    Great hike

Parking here is a nightmare, even on weekdays. But once you get to the park it is a great hike. My pup is a little older but can still make it all the way up without a problem. We prefer taking the paved way versus the stairs. Would 100% consider keeping your dog ON a leash here.

great hike, views, not entirely safe

I just moved to this area to be near a famous dog friendly park. Well first hike an off leash German shepherd mix tried to attack my dog. Another lady said her off leash dog was unfriendly/unpredictable - well then maybe it shouldn't be off leash. Second hike I noticed blood splatter in the trail. I am all for off leash dogs but if you have an unfriendly dog at least muzzle it.
Already tired of the lack of common sense people have here.
    Go but be ready.

    Great Park!

I love this park! I took my sweet adorable aussie mix here for a fun time hiking. We had so much fun and she met so many new doggy friends!

    Runyon is Great!

We really love this central city get away. It's probably one of the most popular places to bring dogs in all of LA. Read more here. http://mrandmrsadventure.com/2013/03/02/hiking-runyon-canyon/

    Nightmare

A year ago August our sweet boy Satchmo got killed at this park. He fell to his death while he was under some bushes. Somehow these bushes led to an area that wasn't well protected and he fell over a retaining wall. I'll never go back and can't understand how this could have happened and how it hasn't happened before

    Parking Stinks

I love this trail, but parking stinks

    best on cool days

my dog and I love Runyon. however, it does get really hot up in the hills in the summer and can be dangerous for those with heavy and dark coats. the park does have a couple water stations but I definitely recommend bringing a lot of water for yourself and your pup. we have encountered mostlly responsible pet owners but once or twice seen mild dog fights with off-leash doggies. i always keep mine on a leash because of this.

all in all, it's a fun hike and dogs get lots of chances to interact w/ nature, wildlife and other dogs. and what dog doesn't love that?
