    McLaren Park real location

Obviously, this website doesn’t know neighborhoods in San Francisco. McLaren park is Not in the Bayview district. Being the 2nd largest park in San Francisco this park is surrounded by 3 neighborhoods….The Portola district, the Excelsior district, and Visitacion Valley.
The Bayview district is across the 101 freeway from the Portola district. The park is No where near the Bayview district.
Being in my Portola neighborhood, yes it is a very nice park, most of all the playgrounds and pond is at Louis Sutter area of the park in the Portola district. The Friends of McLpark organization has done much to help this park . It has become what it is because of this organization.
Watch out for the coyotes. They even come out into the open fields during the middle of the day. They have gone after little dogs.

    Be Careful Of foxtails

Lots of dog walkers when on went on a weeknight at 6pm, my fluffy husky mix came home covered in foxtails after running through the brush. Be careful of this!!

    Lovely park

I am physically disabled which limits my ability to take my dog to play. But This park has many options trails, open play areas with easy access.

    HUGE park.

This park is amazing! Dog walkers frequently bring all sizes of pups here. There is a large pond for ducks and a play ground for the little ones by Woolsey(parking lot available) & Cambridge entrances. The pond area is on leash, but don't hesitate to un leash them in the field or on the trails, just keep them near, as there is a busy road to get to the other half of McLaren. The upper lake is a huge lake made for dogs to enjoy and then there is a dog run area. I recommend taking your dogs here for a nice hike, if you can get to the water tower, there is an amazing view of the city.

As for dog runs, I'd say roughly 4 large fields exist! Most of them are green and grassy, the one with the dog walkers is more on the brown side. Bring a wet nap for wiping them down as it can get dusty sometimes!

Dog walkers won't really say hi so go with a friend and their dog!

Warning: Coyotes at night & maybe even evening.

    I Love McLaren Park!

The reviewer states that the park is less than 10 acres. McLaren Park is actually 315 acres with the dog area part of that. I love hiking the park's Philosopher's Trail with my three dogs... the views are amazing and people are friendly. Highly recommend this hidden SF jewell.
