Great area for off leash adventures! Could easily spend all day there. Beach and trees and sand and so many dogs to run and play with. Our favorite place to take the dog out in San Francisco.

Description

Located on Skyline Blvd, Fort Funston is one of the best places in all of San Francisco to bring your dog for a day of fun. Plenty of open space allows your dog to run free (as long as they are well-behaved and under voice command), and there are several trails, beach areas and other dogs to keep your pup happy. Dogs must be on a leash in the Bank Swallow habitat areas.

Amazing Beach For Dogs And Humans!

Our dog LOVED Fort Funston. Both of us had never seen anything like it. To get down you go down a sandy cliff side staircase. The beach is massive and there are tons of dogs. All the dogs seemed to be well trained and mild tempered. Our dog was so happy!

THE best dog beach. We’ve been going for 9 years. Best if your dog has good recall, because this place is massive. Easy to avoid horses by going north once down the stairs on the beach. It’s more of a dog beach than a people beach! Even if the tide is high, there’s plenty of room “on top”. Cliffs are steep though, and naughty dogs who chase birds or other dogs off the cliffs and get stuck on the cliffs will cost a lot of money to be rescued. If your dog is a crazy spaz or can’t listen well, might want to keep them leashed until down on the beach.

    Watch out for horses

Tons of other dogs off-leash running around socializing. The only downside of this place is that there is a horse ranch nearby that periodically walks their horses leaving trails of horse poop along the beach. The horses also startled my dog so be sure to keep a leash handy when you see horses walking towards you in the distance.

    Doggy paradise

This is a great spot to bring your dog, so long as they're good with other dogs and are good off leash -- because there are TONS of other dogs here, and plenty of space to run around. But there's no fences or anything stopping your dog from running off into the sand dunes or down to the beach, so be forewarned! But it's a TON of fun, and there's lots of spots with bowls of water for the dogs, as well as shady spots for them to rest on sunny days.

    So Fun!

This was an awesome place to take our dog, Rex. He could be off leash and run through the sand and hills among many other pups. And for us humans the walk was beautiful. It's definitely worth making the trip while in San Fran.
