Half Moon Bay Coastal Trail

The Half Moon Bay Coastal Trail is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization that is working to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors. Previously an unused railroad corridor, this "rail-trail" is now a great place to walk Fido in Half Moon Bay! The map below shows a parking area with convenient access to the Half Moon Bay Coastal Trail. Rails-to-Trails Conservancy has generously provided map data for this trail to Bring Fido for informational purposes only. For more detailed trail information, please visit TrailLink.com. Great Walk with Dogs

Walked the southern 1/3 of this trail with two athletic Standard Poodles. The trail is officially "on leash", but half of the walkers we met had dogs off leash in the sections that curve up into the meadows away from the cliffs. The trail was dirt until we got to the golf course. It becomes paved for a mile or more above and below the Ritz Carleton. We passed two beaches (stairs down cliffs) where dogs were running off leash in the surf; however, the beaches are "officially "on leash" areas. Walkers share this trail with joggers and cyclists, but there's plenty of room to step aside for them. The scenery was spectacular. Be sure to bring a camera.
