Kearney Hike and Bike Trail

Kearney Hike and Bike Trail is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization that is working to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors. Previously an unused railroad corridor, this "rail-trail" is now a great place to walk Fido in Kearney! The map below shows a parking area with convenient access to the Pioneer's Path (part of Cottonmill to Ft. Kearney Trail). Hard to Find.

It took 45 minutes and three stops to find the Cotton mill trail. Finally I took I 80 East from rt 44 or 2nd Ave. 3 miles to a giant wooden construction over the entire four lanes looking like a covered bridge. I took the exit just beyond, and after crossing the interstate, decended to a motel, restaurant and information center at the north end of the construction. There is a bridge over the river and a paved trail with street lights streching 3 miles to Kearney westward or almost as far eastward. Extremely pleasant walk. On a Saturday there was practically no one else on the trail.
