    beautiful park!

I’m from NC and was in Atl for a couple days and saw postings about this park and decided me and my pup had to check it out :). I read some reviews where due to it’s popularity it can get hectic on weekends and you run a greater risk of encountering aggressive dogs or mean owners so we just went on a monday morning and it was amazing :). handful of dogs to play with, chill owners, lots of tennis balls to fetch, and fun log features to climb on and explore. really enjoyed it overall, and the astroturf was a huge bonus in keeping my guy clean while he ran around fetching balls or playing. one thing i would say is if you plan on going in winter, make sure to bring your own water for your pup, because they turn off the water in winter. we had to cut our play session a bit short because we forgot water, but we plan on going back! overall fun and beautiful park! i think going during a weekday and not during a really popular time was key to our experience, and would highly recommend :)

    Great News- Tahoe is 'gone'!

There has been a large black Native American (think large German Shepherd) named Tahoe that has been terrorizing this dog park for a LONG time. (actually it's his ;sitter; that is the problem (when you beat a dog with a leash...well (his new dog is now aggressive, go figure!)

Anyhow- many many folks have said they will 'never go back' due to the DAILY dog fights (the 'sitter' stays at the other end of the park, with his back turned ignoring)...
Anyhow Tahoe is moving to Colorado!

It is (finally) safe to go to the dog park with our being afraid you, or your dog, will be visciously attacked (and then have the 'sitter' not leave or do ANYTHING about it).
    Whew.

    Amazing!!

Stopped here before we left on our 5 hour trip home. There was AstroTurf, sprinklers, free tennis balls, bridges and tunnels, as well as a wooded area. My dog and I loved it! Wish we had a park this great at home.

    Our Favorite!

This is our favorite dog park for our three. Lots of dogs to play with, activities for them (water, tons of tennis balls, agility jump, etc). We really enjoy going there.

Sometimes it's a bit packed, but at least there's shade for the humans, and the dogs have a lot of people and other animals to interact with.

We have had a few people who weren't as attentive towards their dogs as they should have been, but for the most part people are on the ball.

    Love this place!

    Stay Alert!!

My dog loves coming to Newtown as there are always other dogs for him to play with. I love it because while he does usually come home wet from playing in the fountain, he is not covered in dirt because of the astroturf. However, you should ALWAYS watch your dog carefully and stay nearby as he has had a few issues getting attacked by other dogs. Two dogs teamed up on him (including one wearing a muzzle) and we left immediately. If all the dogs are playing nice this is a great place, but I always have to stay on my toes while here.

    Great park.

We were traveling back home from vacation and stopped here. Beautiful park with alot of fun things for pups. My only negative was it's kinda small for how many dogs were there when we went. Not the parks fault just very popular. And we didn't realize our dog doesn't understand that she can use the potty on turf, again not the parks fault. There is a wooded area for the dogs as well that is connected to it. Bring bug spray if you plan to use that side. The puppy splash zone was perfect! Best part for our dog!

Bad reviews not showing entire picture

This park is amazing. I have seen it develop over the years. It is better now than ever, with all the frills of the ‘manicured’ side, along with a wood chipped forest side.
The turf on the manicured side does not get super hot like some people think. It is actually a special type of fake grass made specifically for dog parks.
Those who live around the area and visit regularly will observe that the dogs seem to prefer the manicured side, in spite of having access to both sides. Probably because our house pets are not wolves, just like we are not Vikings. The dogs love the splashing water, the open, soft space to run, and the socialization. Usually the dogs that come are well mannered. But, any dog park will have the issue of ill mannered dogs from time to time. This is not a problem with the park, but rather certain people who visited the park. I would love to see the dog park that warrants five stars for all the people who feel that this is not a five star facility.

Entire Park Is Awesome, But Beware Of The “Dog park Mafia”

The dog park is great, the surrounding park has trails, fields, plenty of space to do cool stuff. Even some workout equipment!
At the dog park, there is a group of older people with big, aggressive dogs. The owners don’t try to control their dogs, even when they group together and get aggressive with other dogs. I had to leave and come back when the other dogs were gone.

    Great park!

I’ve been taking my dogs there for two years and it’s always a great time. I have a 6 month old pup that loves the little dog section and my big dog loves all their is to do in the main park.

AstroTurf is genius. The dogs can still play even when the ground is wet, without fear of being covered in mud. The water fountains were a great fun addition. Best park in Atlanta by far.

    could be awesome!

It’s an amazing park in design and amenities. Unfortunately the last few times we visited, there were so many little kids running around. Very chaotic for some dogs and for this human. They have playgrounds for humans in that park and that’s where the KIDS should play.

    We LOVED this Dog Park

When you have a long hair dog, having the astroturf is a great thing. The water splashing everywhere kept both Max and our kids comfortable on a hot summer day. Nice to see both shady and sunny spots available to sit,

    Excellent Park - Smelly!

This park is perfect for us! We love the fountains, pools, obstacles, and the fact that it is two parks in one! Our only issue with this is that with the astroturf it gets a RIPE smell. Wednesdays are the cleaning days (from a sign we saw, but maybe we're wrong) and by Sunday we are in the wooded area only. The best part is really that it's dealer's choice, either the wooded lot side or the side of the fun fountains, and there's a gate too that can be closed to separate the sides if you don't want to leave but want to be in a less populated half. People at this park are very casual and kind.

    My Aussies Love This Park

In the summer there are pools for the dogs to cool off in. I live that because I worry about them over heating. There's water at the front and back of the park but I don't believe they are always dogs. ed on. There is a large shaded area with wood chips, several place for owners to sit, a covered sitting area with picnic tables at the back, plenty of balls to play with and the fake grass area is nice. You don't have to worry about your wet dog getting muddy.
Just like with every park you have people who don't clean up after their dogs. This is the only bad part...that fake grass stuff isn't terrible for keeping it clean of dog waste. Those who do the up keep need to go in there and actually scrub or take a hose to it.

    So much fun!

My Golden Retriever will be 12 in December. He was socialized from an early age and taken on long walks or hikes daily, but we never took him to a Dog Park because we didn't need to. We recently moved to Alpharetta and have enjoyed The Greenway, walking in our neighborhood and walking around Lake Windward, but I have a foot injury, so I brought him to this park today. He loved it! All of the other dogs appeared to love it too.

    Great dog park

This is a gem. Separate areas for large and small dogs. Most ground cover is artificial turf, so it doesn't get muddy with rain. Lots of play fixtures, including a fake fire hydrant, that doubles as a sprinkler during the warm season. Three water fountains in the large dog area. Shaded shelters. Baggie dispensers. Friendly patrons.

    Love this Dog Park

This is a great dog park. The area for large dogs is great and there are a lot of dogs. The water was off bc of the cold weather and fear of freezing pipes, so we'll bring water next time. It's the perfect place to take our Vizsla and wear him out. It's a lot cleaner than any dog park we've been too. Will be returning often. As far as aggressive dogs, we did see some of this, but if you keep an eye on your dog it does not seem to be a problem. One dog was aggressive and the owner left. No one can control other people's pets. It's the risk you take when going to a dog park. Great park.

Beautifully kept and fun for dogs!!

    October, 2013
As we travel through many parts of our great country, we always located dog parks for our 4-legged companions. We almost didn't go to this park after reading the review about how over done and artificial it was. We are so glad we did. It is a beautiful park in which all the dogs were havig a blast!! The reason for the artificial turf is that it gets sprayed every week with chemicals (non-harmful to dogs) that control fleas, diseases, etc. This park was given the Best Park Award by Purina. It is comfortable for both dogs and humans. Go judge for yourself!!

    Love this park!

So much fun! My doggie buddy loves it! He enjoys swimming in the pool, playing in the sprinklers, and playing with his friends. I like that there is a shaded area for people to sit, and water fountains for us.

    unsafe

This dog park Is amazing and I wish my dog and I could enjoy it but it is extremely unsafe. I have been there 8 times over the last year (2013) and 4 out of the 8 times my dog has been attacked. There are too many irresponsible owners that bring aggressive dogs and owners that don't supervise their dogs. This park needs someone to monitor the dogs because it's chaos! I love the facility but the last incident I feared for my dogs life, and she's 60 pounds! She is the sweetest golden retriever that does nothing to provoke attack, and all 4 times have been 4 different dogs. Stay away unless you can afford the vet bills from aggressive dogs.

Pretty -- but a little overdone

This is a human's version of what they think a dog would like. Anyone who knows a dog knows that it wants interesting things to smell, leaves and dirt to nose around in and a place to play. While this park is very attractive to HUMANS, I'm not sure it's as equally attractive to DOGS. Beneful got their branding on it -- there's a big dog-bone shaped structure in the middle that dogs could run up the steps, over and down the steps on the other side -- but very few bother. The grass is Astroturf, which gets pretty hot in the summer -- just one large expanse of emerald-green turf (hmm, but dogs can't see green . . .) There is a whimsical fire-hydrant that sprays water (although the day I was there, the water was more trickling than spraying.) The park is surrounded by a track somewhat like you'd find surrounding the football field of any well-financed athletic program -- that pinkish-brown rubbery stuff. When I took two dogs there, one of the dogs sorta sniffed around dispiritedly at the turf, hydrant and big dog bone. The other dog refused to step onto the Astroturf -- you could just see her thinking, "Oh, ICK, what IS that stuff? NOT GRASS!" After a few abortive attempts, I guided them to an older area of the park that still has trees, leaves, dirt, grass and moss. There they played happily with other dogs who preferred the natural setting to the plastic one. Unfortunately, the gate in this area needed adjusting at the time we were there, and even though several of us were keeping an eye on it, one dog nudged the gate open (no double entry) and escaped into the main Newtown Park -- as the dog park is near the entrance and the busy main drive, that was a little scary. So -- pretty park, visually, but not necessarily ideal.

    LOVE IT

I love this place! IT is so cool. However I have not been there during the summer yet and believe the previous post is probably dead on as far as the artificial turf is concerned.

    water

there is water! there's water for drinking and there's water fountains for them to run through (flat with water spraying from the ground and an artificial fire hydrant spraying water as well). just give the park a chance. yes, there is astroturf, so maybe waiting until the cooling hours or cooler months may be more pleasing as far as the heat is concerned for their feet.

    Poor Design!!!

Unfortunately, with the reopening of the new dog park, Newtown closed the large dog park which was a favorite among many patrons. After giving the new park a chance, we will NOT be returning. Whoever decided artificial turf was a good idea is obviously not very intelligent. The materials heats up and absorbs heat, making it too hot for the dogs to stand on or run on. What a waste of money!!!
