St. James's Park

With its royal, political and literary associations, St James's Park is at the very heart of London and covers 23 hectares (58 acres) with a lake harboring ducks, geese, and pelicans. St James's is also home to the Mall, the setting for many ceremonial parades and events of national celebration. Please note that dogs are not allowed in the Memorial Gardens (in front of Buckingham Palace) or in the fenced-off grass area around the perimeter of the lake. Dogs must be leashed on the footpath around the perimeter of the lake and on the Horse Guards Parade Ground. During the spring and summer, you and Fido can watch the changing of the guard in the open area in front of Buckingham Palace at 11:30 A.M. each morning (weather permitting). Visit Website

Dog owners are rate payers too.

I am not surprised at the attitude of Henry who seems to believe that he speaks for everyone and no one. The fact is all of the Royal Parks are owned and paid for by the ratepayers of that borough and as such are there for everyone’s responsible use.

I go to St James's park several times a week to exercise and train my dog and it infuriates me how ignorant people are of the law in general and of the park rules in particular. Especially the so-called plastic policemen otherwise known as community support officers.

The Royal Parks rules relating to dogs, leads and wildlife are clearly stated on their website in a PDF file for everyone to see so there is no excuse for any ignorance.

Dogs must be kept on a lead in the Royal Gardens in front of Buckingham Palace, on the path that surrounds the lake and on the marching area of Horse-guards Parade.

Dogs are not allowed to go onto the rough-land set aside for water foul surrounding the lakes.

Dogs are not allowed to worry the wildlife and that includes the squirrel population.

Apart from obeying these common sense rules,

DOGS ARE ALLOWED TO BE OFF OF THE LEAD AND BE EXERCISED AND HAVE FUN WITH OTHER DOGS AND THEIR OWNERS.

    Common Sense:
Dogs have to be trained in the place that the training applies.

You cannot train a dog to be socialised and be gentle with other life-forms if they are not allowed to come into contact with those life-forms. The same principle applies to training them not to go onto the prohibited areas.

Advice for the Community Support Officer – Gordon Brow who arrogantly and belligerently stopped me in St James’s park after dusk on the 15th of January 2011 and after not asking what I was doing or allowing me to speak and admitting that he did not know the law or the rules of the park in relation to dogs, gave me a Stop and Search ticket stating that I was to ‘Stop training my Alsatian dog’ whilst I was in a legitimate area of the park and where I had every right to do so.

BLOODY WELL LEARN THE LAW AND THE PARK RULES

    AND ABOVE ALL ELSE

DO A COURSE ON INTERPERSONAL SKILLS AND CUSTMER CARE.
