    Very large off leash area

If an urban "off-leash area" suggests to you a half-acre of pea gravel or worn grass surrounded by chain link fence, you will be astonished at the size of this dog park. I'd guess that this one is a few dozen acres in size, including a large open sandy area (dog hill) and lots of fenced in hiking trails through the woods. Take your dog(s) and get lost in there for a while.

    Off leash trails

We stopped here for a rest stop for our dogs on a road trip. There were fantastic shaded long off leash trails that were fenced in. There are holes in some of the fencing so only recommend letting your dog off leash if they recall back to you, there weren't too many holes though. The trails led up to "dog hill" which was an open sandy area. We didn't stay there long as the sand was hot. Highly recommend the trails!

    Broken Fences

Personally, I love High Park and everything it has to offer; but there are plenty of problems too. There are a TON of breaks in the fences for the off leash part of the park, and for the off leash trails. I have seen plenty of dogs get out and their owners frantically try to get them back. Some of the fences are also very low. I personally started bringing my dog there to do training, and I know other people who do too. I'm working on recall with my dog, but if she can escape like that then there's no point in calling it an off leash park anymore. High Park needs improvement.

    vandals

There is a vandal or group of vandals. The locks on the off leash areas get removed, fences get cut.

The park keeps temporarily fixing the issues but new fence blocks get cut.

We have noticed the issue ramping up in the past couple weeks.

Not all dogs have recall - it's frustrating.

Fantastic fenced off leash trails and huge fenced dog park that seems to stay intact.

    Fabulous off leash area

I am fortunate to live really close to High Park and enjoy taking my dogs to the off-leash areas. We usually stop at dog hill for several minutes so visit other dogs, but I find that it is more enjoyable to walk the many available paths. Lots of dog walkers, they tend to stay around the dog hill area and it can get busy. I prefer the paths where we can enjoy lovely walks without worry of traffic or bothering non dog owners.
