    The Walkway Over The Hudson in Poughkeepsie, NY, is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization that is working to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors. Previously an unused railroad corridor, this dog-friendly "rail-trail" is now a great place to walk Fido in Poughkeepsie!       A great day!

      Rigby went for a 4.5 mile walk (Back & Forth) over the walkway Over The Hudson. They have 3 Lemonade stands at the beginning - middle & other side for humans. They have a temperate of pavement sign on the highlands side - telling you the temperature of the pavement & when dogs paws can burn - from walking on what temperature. We brought plenty of water & a bowl for him to enjoy along the way as well. It was a lovely day. Plus he got lots of pets from lots of new friends he made along the way. There was a lovely breeze as we were over the Hudson River.

      Walk over the Hudson

      This is a great walk with beautiful views. It’s an easy hike and would be suitable for any size pup. At the main rest area they have water for dogs and cans that waste can be discarded

      Great Spot

      Beautiful views and very dog friendly! It connects to the Hudson Vally Rail trail so it’s great for long walks too!

      walkway

      beautiful walk with fido. However, keep in mind that there is no shade and there are warnings posted before walking that the asphalt can reach up to 130 degrees on an 85 degree day. Very hot on a dog's paws. Not a good idea to go during peak sun hours. Probably a better walk in the evening at sunset. Probably more of a beautiful sight as well. Big warning. There is NO ACCESS TO WATER! There are food trucks on both sides of the walkway where you can purchase bottles of water for your dog. The only reason my doggie and I made it is because I was well-prepared with my own water bottles.

      dog friendly?

      While the Walkway is very dog friendly - the elevator up to the Walkway is not... We were quite disappointed about that... Pets are not permitted on the elevator..
