The Capital Crescent Trail near Washington, DC is dog friendly and one of 1600 rail-trails supported by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization that is working to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors. Previously an unused railroad corridor, this "rail-trail" is now a great place to walk Fido in Washington! The map below shows a parking area with convenient access to the Capital Crescent Trail. Not a good place to walk dogs
While the Capital Crescent Trail is a WONDERFUL trail, it is also a major thoroughfare for bicycle traffic. This takes bicyclists from downtown out to Bethesda, Silver Spring, Chevy Chase and them parts. It is highly used, had lots of traffic and is REALLY not a good place to be walking dogs, with leashes crossing the trail. There are lots of other good trails in Wash DC where you wont face traffic. Think about the other trails.
