Waterdog Lake Trail is a 3.8-mile hike to Waterdog Lake in Lake City, CO. This pet-friendly trail welcomes you and Fido to discover shaded forests with water and mountain views. Since the trail is on Bureau of Land Management land, dogs are not required to be on a leash.

Waterdog Lake Trail in Lake City, CO
About 2/3 of the way up, you will break out of the Aspens into an incredible view called the "Horse Pasture". Evidently years ago, wild mustangs ran loose here (so I was told). It is a wonderful reward for the steep path through the gorgeous Aspens and a great place for a lunch break.

This hike can be rather steep, especially with a pack but the views are spectacular. The Aspens cover almost 1/2 of the trail.
