The path between Refugio and El Capitan washed out a couple of years ago. It is closed about a 1/2 mile from El Capitan SB

    No dogs allowed

I was on the beach with my dog between Refugio and El Capitan, very close to the Refugio Beach campground, when a park ranger came running out on the beach to inform me that I was in violation of two laws - one, that I had a dog on the beach, and two, that my dog was off leash. This ranger was very hungry to give me a ticket, but reluctantly allowed me to leave with a warning after I showed him the sign that did not clearly state that no dogs were allowed on the beach. He stated the fines are between $600 - $800. Not worth the risk. Very unfriendly - do not take dogs on the beach here!
