Visited this park on our way through town and met some incredibly sweet pups and wonderful owners. One of the cleanest parks I’ve ever seen and all owners I saw were very aware and picked up after their pooch. Really enjoyed our visit here, would absolutely come back.

This dog park is pretty small, just a large rectangular piece of flat land with a fence around it and one dog drinking station. There is almost no shade whatsoever. Depending on the time of day only one bench is in the shade. Other people I have seen there has brought their own camp chairs to sit in and umbrellas. There is nothing for the dogs to do or investigate. There is a nearby little lake that we tried walking around but it is so dirty and filled with trash that it smelled and was not safe for a dog to walk along the shoreline. We saw fishing line left and even a water moccasin. We will not be back to this dog park or lake side park.

We frequent this park daily. This is a great park but people always bring their large (well over 20+ lbs into the park). My small 13lb dog plays well with large dogs however this is the second time she’s been attacked (myself included) as the dog jumps and nips for my dog in my arms. It’s getting to the point I can no longer enjoy what this park has to offer as I’m concerned my dog may always be in danger.

Two years ago it was ok. Been away for a couple and it’s gone downhill. Not crap everywhere. Can’t blame the dogs but it’s a testament to the type of dog people that frequent this park. The gate door to the small area was off its hinges for well over three weeks. Doggie waste bags are usually empty. I carry my own but for those that typically don’t pick up after their dog, it would be nice to make it easier for them.
The worst part of this park has nothing really to do with the park itself and more to do with the large dog people who blatantly ignore the 30lb weight limit for the small dog park. It’s every day. Almost every time I try to bring my 10lb puppy to the small dog park to socialize, there is at least one oversized dog running around. It doesn’t matter if your dog is well behaved or not. Small park for small dogs. Big park for big dogs. If your big dog can’t handle other big dogs then take him/her for a walk or get them trained.
Small dogs and puppies still want to play and often lack the understanding that big dogs can easily and inadvertently invite or even kill them.
Again it’s not the dogs fault. It’s the Ignorant and inconsiderate people that accompany their dog that ruined this place for everyone.
Just last week there was a turd the size of a football in the 30lb and under dog park. These folks not only cannot read but they lack the common decency of cleaning up after their dogs. - BeckyFeb 17, 2019Huge Play Area
Big and small dog areas, both large. My pup loved it. I was there in February and it was hot. There’s no shade to speak of, so I can imagine it’s brutally hot. That’s the only drawback I saw and that’s pretty easily fixed.

No shaded areas but huge space to run. Fun to watch the planes at the local airport too. Our Belba had a great time running and making friends.

Camp Barkeley opened in 2010 with tremendous support from the community. The park has 2 different areas - one for large dogs and one for small dogs. It is a wonderful place to take your pups - for exercise, socialization (for you and your dogs), and for play!

this parks alright..you would think for it being Texas and it for the most part is always hot, they would have some shade for the dogs..and more than one water fountain..

When my son brings his dog home to visit, one of the highlights is going to Camp Barkeley. The double-gated area allows dogs to "sniff" through the fence before entering. This is a good way to test how welcomed the new dog will be coming in and it allows time for other owners to offer assurance or give warning before entering. (Obviously, I may be more nervous about how dogs will interact than some). There are rules posted to guard against aggressive dogs being unleashed and most dog owners honor the rules. It's a very friendly place to go and let dogs run and have a good time.
