Description

Located near historic Savannah, this park borders Skidaway narrows, a part of Georgia’s intracoastal waterway. The park provides camping and picnicking surrounded by Spanish moss-draped live oaks. Trails wind through maritime forest and over salt marsh allowing visitors to watch for deer, fiddler crabs, raccoon, egrets and migrating birds such as colorful painted buntings. An observation tower provides another chance to watch for wildlife on this barrier island. A giant ground sloth replica, birding station, reptile room, and natural and cultural exhibits are featured in the interpretive center. Dogs must be leashed at all times and are not permitted in any buildings.

    Dog Friendly Trails

Trails are super fun, plenty of rest areas to stop and get a drink and even some photos. Absolutely beautiful.

    Great hiking for this pup

We visited on a very cool day, but that didn't stop us from enjoying this lovely park. We stopped and got a map from the friendly people at the visitor's center and were able to spend about 4.5 hours hiking on the trails. Because of the weather, we only encountered a handful of people out hiking, but they were all friendly. Also lucked out and didn't run into any alligators!(signs are posted) Would recommend this to any pups looking to get out and stretch their legs! Fyi you do have to pay to park here.

    nice trails

Cool nature trails, dog friendly, clear paths. My dog loved it. It was a nice break from the savannah scene. There are multiples trails and distances to choose, ranging up to three miles.

    Awesome trail

We went over Labor Day weekend 2012 in the evening and only saw one other person on the 3-mile trail. Its a fun loop that goes through the forest and then along one of the many inland waterways. We saw some deer, heard an owl, and most importantly our dog had a blast. As with all the state parks, you are required to have a 6' leash and clean up after your pet. There were quite a few mosquitoes, but that is to be expected.
