Dog Friendly Beaches in Ohio

Dog friendly beaches are heaven on earth for Fido. And since sandy paws equal happy dogs, we've sniffed out the best beaches in Ohio where dogs can run, swim, and frolic in the sand. Use the links/map below to find a dog-friendly beach in Ohio.

Fairport Harbor Dog Beach

A dog swim area is located at the east end of the beach between the two signs clearly marked “Dog Swim Area.” This is the only place dogs are allowed on the sand. Dogs not in the swim area must remain on the sidewalks, parking lots or grassy areas. You must leash your dog when it is out of the water and you must carry the leash with you at all times. Owners are responsible for cleaning up pet waste. Amenities Accessible harbor view boardwalk, restrooms, changing rooms and shower facilities; guarded swim beach and concessions (during summer season); picnic area and pavilion with grills, drinking fountain, playground, dog swim area, volleyball courts, and a Surf Chair (all-terrain wheelchair for use by visitors with physical disabilities -- available during the regular summer beach season). Directions Take Rt. 2 to the Fairport Harbor/Richmond Street exit and go north to the light at the Richmond Street/Rt. 283 intersection. Proceed north (straight) for about 1/4 mile to High Street. Turn right on High Street and proceed to Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park entrance. The historic Fairport Harbor Lighthouse and Marine Museum next to the park is available for tours. Call 440-354-4825 to arrange a lighthouse visit. Please note that dogs must be on a leash and are allowed only on the paved parking lot and in the designated dog swim area. Nickle Plate Beach

Between Memorial and Labor Day, restrictions on the hours dogs are allowed on the beach. Posted on-leash only.

Kelleys Island State Park

Northern campsite and beach is dog friendly as is the one-mile North Shore Loop hiking trail.
