Your leashed pup can join you on the pet-friendly nature trails located in the undeveloped areas of Heckscher State Park in East Islip, NY. Pets must be on a leash no longer than six feet. Guests with dogs may park their vehicles in Field 5 during the off-peak season (September to late May) and Field 4 during the peak season (Memorial Day to Labor Day). The dog-friendly trail is accessible from the western section of the Field 5 parking lot. Dogs aren't permitted on the bike path, beach and playgrounds, or in picnic areas, the campground and buildings including the cottages. Proof of vaccination must be produced if requested by staff. Please clean up after Fido.

Davis Park Ferry in Patchogue, NY is pet friendly. Leashed dogs are invited to travel to Fire Island, a beautiful barrier island parallel to Long Island's South Shore, via Davis Park Ferry from nearby Patchogue. This short trip takes roughly 20 minutes from the mainland. Dogs are charged a flat fee regardless of size. Although pets are restricted March 15 through Labor Day on Fire Island National Seashore's ocean beaches (Lighthouse, Sailors Haven, Watch Hill, Talisman, and Wilderness) and within the Fire Island Wilderness, four-legged visitors can take a stroll to Fire Island Lighthouse and explore the boardwalks and paved trails year-round.
