Dog-Friendly Activities in New Town, ND

Located on the upper bays of Lake Sakakawea, Lewis and Clark State Park offers outdoor activities for visitors of the Epping area. This park's pet-friendly amenities include a dog park, campground and more than five miles of hiking trails. Fido is welcome to join you as you explore the lands like the famous expeditioners, but dogs must be leashed on the trails. Please note that pets are not permitted on the beach or in the cabins.

Theodore Roosevelt National Park is a pet-friendly attraction in Medora, ND, established to preserve the rugged badlands in honor of the landscape's influence on Teddy Roosevelt. Pets in the park must be leashed at all times and are welcome to walk along roads, sidewalks including along the scenic Painted Canyon Visitor Center, parking areas, and in shaded campgrounds and picnic areas. Pets aren't permitted in park buildings, on trails or in the backcountry. Be aware that dogs can agitate bison and other animals, creating a dangerous situation.

There you will find statues of memorable Scandinavians, a granite map of the Scandinavian countries, a grass-roofed Stabbur, a waterfall and much more. Seaman Overlook at Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center in Washburn, ND is dog friendly. You and Fido will marvel at the 1,400 pound steel statue of Seaman, the Newfoundland that accompanied Lewis and Clark on their journey across America. Self-guided tours of the property are also available.

Bring your pooch to say hello to Salem Sue, the World’s Largest Holstein, a dog-friendly roadside attraction in New Salem, ND. A short trail will lead you to the top of the hill where you can have a photoshoot with Fido. When you reach the top, you can take a moment to relax and enjoy the view. The pet-friendly Fort Mandan State Historic Site in Washburn, ND, is the reconstructed replica where Lewis and Clark wintered during 1804-1805.
