Montrose Dog Beach

The Montrose Dog Beach is Chicago's first legal off-leash beach. Located on the Northwest corner of Montrose Beach, this area is fenced and offers free dog waste bags and a dog-wash area. Montrose Dog Beach is open during all regular Chicago Park District hours, but morning hours are the most popular. Montrose Dog Beach is free, but DFA tags are required for all dogs, and those cost $5.

Whalon Lake Dog Park

The Forest Preserve District of Will County's 8-acre fenced Whalon Lake Dog Park provides an exercise area where dogs can run free. The Dog Park also features a smaller 2.5-acre park for dogs under 30 pounds. A shelter and benches provide comfort for the canines' human companions. A permit is required for use of the Dog Park. Other amenities at Whalon Lake include multi-purpose trails, picnic shelters, and access to an 80-acre lake for boating and fishing.

Fullersburg Woods is a Du Page County Forest Preserve with miles of multipurpose trails open to bicyclers, horseback riders, cross-country skiers, hikers and dog walkers. Miller Meadow Off-Leash Dog Area Grand Opening

The Forest Preserves of Cook County currently operates Miller Meadow Off-Leash Dog Areas for visitors to let their dogs enjoy the preserves without a leash. Please note that these are the only locations within the Forest Preserves where off-leash dogs are allowed. Dog owners wishing to enter the Off-Leash Dog Areas must first purchase an annual membership. The annual membership includes one membership card and one key to enter any of the Forest Preserves’ Off-Leash Dog Areas. Annual memberships are valid from October 1 through September 30 of the following year.

Naperville Riverwalk features 1.75 miles of brick paths, fountains, bridges, meeting and event places, outdoor sculpture and artwork, recreational facilities, and celebratory memorials. Leashed dogs are welcome on the Walk, and there is plenty of shade and water spigots available along the way. Great place unwind and relax. Nearby Riverwalk Cafe welcomes dogs on their patio and offers a simple doggie menu.

Hawk Hollow Preserve

Hawk Hollow Preserve offers 34 acres of off-leash area for dogs to enjoy along with a three-mile multipurpose trail connecting to trails in Mallard Lake and West Branch forest preserves. A permit is required for off-leash use. Dogs must be leashed in all other areas of the preserve. The area is open during regular preserve hours. It is closed on Tuesday mornings until 10:00 am for routine maintenance.
