This trail provides a wonderful opportunity for your pup to enjoy the sandy beach and waves in the off season, from Labor Day through March 15. DUE TO DAMAGE from Hurricane Sandy you can no longer use the ferry to make the loop. Another section of the trail may be inaccessible please call first. This 7 mile hike can be done end to end utilizing the ferry until the end of October. After the ferry stops for the season it becomes a 14 mile out and back trip. See Details

Blydenburgh Dog Park at Blydenburgh County Park Blydenburgh County Park is a 627 acre park located at the headwaters of the Nissequogue River. The park is richly forested hills and valleys and the centerpiece of the park is a man-made lake, Stump Pond, that was created at the turn of the century. Dogs are allowed, on leash, throughout the park and without leash only within the fenced-in Dog Park. The Dog Park is an entirely fenced in two acre parcel that includes separate areas for small and large dogs. Each area has an open field and a wooded path to meander through with your dog. Each section is double gated for safe and easy access and includes a water spigot/drinking fountain. There is ample parking adjacent to the park. A Green Key pass is required on the weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The park is open year-round from 8:00 AM to sunset. See Details
Walt Whitman Trail at West Hills County Park The dog-friendly Walt Whitman Trail is an easy, 4.25 mile hike at West Hills County Park that will take about 2 hours to complete with Fido. Aside from the moderate climb to the 401-foot Jaynes Hill, this hike is quite flat. Horses also frequent this park and you should watch out for them as you hike. Please note that dogs must be leashed, and are not permitted in picnic areas. Campsites, lean-tos, and primitive shelters are available year-round; reservations are required. See Details

Makamah Nature Preserve Originally called Crab Meadow Park East Watershed, the Makamah Nature Preserve contains dry and wet woodlands, as well as marsh. The preserve is available for hiking, bird watching, dog walking (on leash). It has been reported that 94 species of birds have been recorded in and around the property and that the park is prime habitat for owls and woodpeckers.
