Theodore Roosevelt National Park is a pet-friendly attraction in Medora, ND, established to preserve the rugged badlands in honor of the landscape's influence on Teddy Roosevelt. Pets in the park must be leashed at all times and are welcome to walk along roads, sidewalks including along the scenic Painted Canyon Visitor Center, parking areas, and in shaded campgrounds and picnic areas. Pets aren't permitted in park buildings, on trails or in the backcountry. Be aware that dogs can agitate bison and other animals, creating a dangerous situation.

Bring Fido to play and exercise at Century Bark Park in Bismark, ND. This recreation area is located next to Century High School, where you are welcome to park your car. The spacious park has four gated sections; Big Paws Field is for pups over 30 lbs, Wiggly Field is for pups under 30 lbs, Furry Field is for all dogs, and Fetch Field is a training space for all dogs and owners. Pet owners should be mindful that there is very little shade, so pack plenty of water.

Dickinson Dog Park is a fenced-in recreation area in Dickinson, ND, that welcomes dogs to play off-leash and make new fur friends. The park features separate areas for small and large dogs, agility equipment, water, and bags to clean up any mess that your pup leaves behind.

Maah Daah Hey is a dog-friendly trail in Medora, ND. Described by many as the best-kept secret in the state, this 144-mile-long trail is a great way to see the state's stunning scenery. Dogs must remain on a leash due to the other wildlife that may be spotted, including prairie dogs. Some parts of the trail are not pet-friendly, including the sections within any state or national parks.

Your pup can join you on a tour of Scandinavian Heritage Park in Minot, ND. The park features replicas and remembrances from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland. There you will find statues of memorable Scandinavians, a granite map of the Scandinavian countries, a grass-roofed Stabbur, a waterfall and much more. Dogs must be leashed at all times and aren't permitted in buildings.

Seaman Overlook at Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center in Washburn, ND is dog friendly. You and Fido will marvel at the 1,400 pound steel statue of Seaman, the Newfoundland that accompanied Lewis and Clark on their journey across America. Self-guided tours of the property are also available.

Bring your pooch to say hello to Salem Sue, the World’s Largest Holstein, a dog-friendly roadside attraction in New Salem, ND. A short trail will lead you to the top of the hill where you can have a photoshoot with Fido. When you reach the top, you can take a moment to relax and enjoy the view. A small picnic area is also available.

The pet-friendly Fort Mandan State Historic Site in Washburn, ND, is the reconstructed replica where Lewis and Clark wintered during 1804-1805. Leashed dogs are permitted inside the fort, in the museum by the fort, and on the pet-friendly grounds. Pets are prohibited from the Lewis and Clark Discovery Center. Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site in Stanton, ND, is dog friendly. Hike along Knife River on the trails and see traces left behind by the dwellings and people. A replica of an Earthlodge is available to visit. Dogs must be leashed at all times.

Lake Sakakawea State Park in Pick City, ND, is dog friendly. Located on the lake's south shore, which is one of the three largest manufactured reservoirs in the nation, this park offers a full-service marina, convenience store and camping storage. In addition, several multi-use trails for hiking are available, and dogs must be leashed at all times.

Cross Ranch State Park in Center, ND is pet friendly. Here, you and Fido can explore over 13 miles of trails together. This extensive trail system allows access to a 5,000-acre nature preserve with mixed prairie grass, river bottom forests, woody draws and roaming bison. Dogs are welcome on certain trails as long as they are well-behaved and cleaned up after.
