Situated conveniently near several access points to hiking trails in the Pine Barrens, this facility was established to provide the public with environmental interpretation of the Pine Barrens. Leashed dogs are welcome on the short, interpretive "Blueberry Loop" trail on the grounds of the center to give visitors a sampling of a Pine Barrens outdoor experience. Your leashed pup can join you on the pet-friendly nature trails located in the undeveloped areas of Heckscher State Park in East Islip, NY. Pets must be on a leash no longer than six feet. Guests with dogs may park their vehicles in Field 5 during the off-peak season (September to late May) and Field 4 during the peak season (Memorial Day to Labor Day). The dog-friendly trail is accessible from the western section of the Field 5 parking lot. Dogs aren't permitted on the bike path, beach and playgrounds, or in picnic areas, the campground and buildings including the cottages. Proof of vaccination must be produced if requested by staff.
