Along the shore and among the forest, you'll notice a stand of tupelo trees, also known as black gum, from the pet-friendly nature trail that weaves around the shoreline and among the swampy marshes. Visitors are reminded that no pets are allowed on State Park beaches between April 1 and September 30, they should always be on a leash under six feet, and all mess should be cleaned up after them. This pet-friendly public recreation area is a 165-acre forested tract along the banks of Salmon Falls River. There are three miles of hiking trails that loop through old-growth stands of pine and hemlock that can be used by dogs and their owners. You can stop en route for a bite to eat in the shade of the tall trees at one of the picnic areas.
