The festival features various events throughout the city, highlighting the beauty of Japanese sakura—the flowering cherry trees that adorn city streets and parks with their distinctive pink and white blossoms. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own food and picnic in Fairmount Park under the trees for an authentic ohanami experience; however, alcohol consumption is only permitted in designated areas.
