Dog Travel in Cargo

We are flying our dog out of Managua using the cargo process. She is 35 lbs. so she is too large to take into the cabin. Please let me know your experience if you have checked your dog through cargo while flying out of Managua. I am really afraid she will get lost or stolen, and never arrive.
