Comfortable pet friendly hotel with large grass area to walk the pup. At the top of this grass field are monuments showing where the Union line was breached by Confederate soldiers. The Irish pub O’Rorke’s is across the street with pet friendly outdoor seating. 👍
- AstridOct 5, 2023Good location
Pretty standard basic hotel experience. Convenient, comfortable, no frills. Breakfast had a nice assortment.
- WendyAug 31, 2023Great location!
Walking distance to almost everything! Great old hotel. Did not get to meet resident ghost. 😔

Great location; comfortable.
- ChristinaJan 20, 2023Convenient location
We could leave our dogs and go for a delicious dinner at the historic Dobbin House nearby. Good walking areas behind the hotel. Close to Visitor Center of Gettysburg National Park.
- KarenAug 14, 2022Great location
Clean room, easy to get outside and to grass for our dog’s needs
- LoriJul 8, 2022Perfect location
Clean, friendly, great breakfast, large rooms, 24/7 coffee/hot cocoa/tea. Excellent salt pool for working out. Walk to everything!

Wonderfully clean hotel with excellent complimentary breakfast. Dog and people friendly staff. Great downtown location.
- JocelyneMay 13, 2022Fantastic location
It was neat and quiet breakfast was super. Axel enjoyed the park for the dog! We will return for sure when in the area!
- RichardMay 11, 2022Excellent location
Very clean, great location, can walk to everything, plenty of parking.
- TerryApr 12, 2022Excellent experience
Great location, close to the battlefield. Clean, comfortable room. Nice shower. Really good breakfast included. Good parking and adequate grassy area for dog “duty” (why do folks not bag it up?). Moody gives it four paws up. DoorDash promptly delivered a wonderful meal from Thai Elephant Walk.
- BrianOct 3, 2021Close to battlefield and many other attractions
Everything was fine. Access to room was easy, dog area was good, plenty of parking, quiet more so than others we have been to. Breakfast was great so was the the attendant. Office staff was helpful and pleasant. Room was clean and comfy, bathroom could use a ceiling fan but not a big minus. Will stay again next on our way through next spring.
- JudySep 26, 2021Pet friendly
There was a nice grassy area for dogs to walk, sniff and take care of business. The rooms were comfortable, but lots of noise that had my pups "alert" barking. The included breakfast buffet was amazing...many choices. No pets allowed there though. I noticed many other guests had fur babies.
- CynthiaJul 3, 2021Very pet friendly
The hotel is in a great location, walking distance from great restaurants. The staff is very friendly and professional. Breakfast is absolutely amazing. Everyone was friendly and nice to my Pomeranians, too!!
- RobinJun 6, 2021Central location
Great accommodations, walk to shops and dining, great areas for dog walking etc. Street noise at front of building is quite loud. Large trucks at all times of day and into the evening.
- SherryMay 20, 2021Good location
Room was clean and appears to have been updated. We had a room facing the road and were not bothered by traffic. Short walk to shopping and pet friendly restaurants.
- KimOct 16, 2020Great stay
We spent 2 days at the 1863 Inn with our dog. The king room was large and easily accommodated his XL cage. Our room was on ground level in the back of the hotel which made access to the large green space behind the hotel quite easy. The room was very clean. Staff was great. Many choices for breakfast. Great location (even close to a dog park.) Will definetly stay here again!
- KikoSep 28, 2020Great location, walk to everything
Very convenient, pleasant, even historical park right behind the parking lot. Room was nicely clean with hard surface floors.
- ShawnSep 7, 2020Great experience
Super pet friendly. Clean, comfortable room. Pool looked clean and inviting. They gave us dog treats on check in. Very close to many dog friendly shops and restaurants. Will be back!
- KarenJul 28, 2020We Loved It!
Hotel was very clean...hotel staff were fantastic...great pool...we couldn’t have asked for anything better
- BrittanyJun 11, 2020I have taken my dog here every year since 2010
We come every summer, usually around the 4th of July, but sometimes during other dates as well. My dog is used to traveling with us and enjoys being a part of family vacations. We have always had a great experience here... it's convenient because it's so close to everything (including many pet friendly restaurants) and also an easy walk around downtown Gettysburg without ever getting in your car. The rooms have always been clean and I appreciate the fridge (my dogs food goes in the fridge). Overall cannot say anything good things - Gettysburg is VERY dog friendly and I appreciate it!
- MikeApr 18, 2020Take a ‘Hard Pass’ on the 1863
I’m at the conclusion of a two week roadtrip. My final night was in Gettysburg at the 1863. Disappointing way to end the trip:
*Bedding: absolute worst quality bedding — sheets and pillows — of the entire trip. Even low level Best Westerns have far superior bedding.
*AC/Heating Unit: again, the only place I’ve stayed in two weeks where the fan will not stay on all night as a type of white noise. ..which is desperately needed because:
*Road noise: the 1863 sits directly on a busy, load road. Half of the rooms face the road, and you hear ever car that passes.
When visiting the Gettysburg area, I would take a ‘hard pass’ on the 1863. Try Courtyard or perhaps the Best Western options.

What pooch can beat this place? Walking distance to dog-friendly restaurants...Minimal pet charge per night...Friendly service with clean rooms. You are asked to sign a pet policy in advance so there shouldn’t be any surprises if you are mindful of your neighbors. Already planning our return visit!
