Notes from the host
MidCentury Private Studio
Enjoy complimentary bottle of wine on the beautiful, large tiled patio gardens. Pooches welcome with prior approval at $45./pooch, per visit* (not per night)
There's a kitchenette/breakfast bar, with microwave, coffeemaker, hot water kettle & under-the-counter fridge w/separate freezer. BYO coffee. Teas provided. NOT a full kitchen. (Please see full listing for all amenities.) This is not a full kitchen, so please don't plan any major cooking in the room.) Set up for reheating, take out, etc. We switched to compostable cups, plates, silverware, etc. There are real wine glasses and mugs. NOTE! We ask that you don't use all appliances at once while using hairdryer, as it may trigger the circuit breaker.
Studio is separate from the rest of the main house, although attached by one common wall at the end of a long hallway in the main house. There is sound dampening/blocking material on the house side, which muffles noise on both sides. It is not completely soundproof, but similar to a hotel, where you may hear sounds from outside your room. I travel frequently and the main house may be rented out to guests during your visit. These guests have their own separate entrance and space.
The second bed (for 3rd guest), is a twin air bed, located in the closet with extra linens. It can be "tight" with the airbed opened but okay for a place to sleep, then deflate bed during the day, if you are on a budget or for a child. Although we have tried to be as transparent as possible with our description, we invite you to check all of the amenities section for a complete list or message us with questions.
*Pooches welcome with prior approval! ( $45 pet fee per pooch, per visit.) Pooches not to be left unattended in yard, due to barking and other issues. Completely fenced-in yard, within walking distance to a lovely nature preserve. If you like peace and privacy, this is the place for you. Please see pet guidelines further down in this description!
Enjoy this fabulous super sunny master bedroom studio, with floor-to-ceiling windows looking out on huge fenced tiled patio with fruit trees and gardens. Window coverings comprised of blinds plus draperies assure your privacy, so that you will find this to be a comfortable oasis. I am reachable for any questions, advice, requests or needs via the VRBO booking thread or cell phone for any urgent matters.
Enter through a side gate, down the adobe paved path, with motion-sensor spots, through the heirloom roses, which are highly scented when in bloom. Studio is separate from the rest of the main house, (although attached by one common wall.) You will walk past the main house to enter the studio. Host or gardener may be working in the garden after 11am.
Centrally located; ten minutes to downtown Monterey, Laguna Seca Raceway or CSUMB and ten minutes to Monterey Bay Aquarium. There is a 24-hour Safeway and Walgreen's just 2 minutes away, in case you have any midnight cravings! Trader Joe's and Whole Foods are 10 minutes away.
Located in a wonderful little sunbelt, perched high upon a hilltop with a nice peek of Monterey Bay in a very quiet residential neighborhood, so typically we are above any fog – especially during the summer season when the rest of the Monterey Peninsula could be socked-in! We are at the top of a street which ends in a cul-de-sac so there is not a lot of through traffic and super-easy street parking right in front of the house or across the street.
Freshly painted in a soothing palette & tastefully furnished, the studio is comprised of large sunny master bedroom with hardwood floors and your own private updated Travertine marble bathroom (shower only) with towels, hairdryer and high-quality toiletries. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer a view of patio, creating a sunny and bright ambiance. A dimmer switch for the overhead chandelier, a writing table, smart TV & wi-fi. You will be billed for any additional viewing costs on Amazon or Netflix. There is a $150. fee if you deprogram the TV and we need to have it reprogrammed.
The detailed FAQ binder includes restaurant menus and helpful suggestions. Also, there is a lot of info in the studio on the area and local attractions.
The studio is heated through vents by a gas forced-air furnace, (controlled by the thermostat located in the main house) and if you need extra heat, there are more blankets plus a space heater for your complete comfort. It rarely gets that cold here, but if we do get a cold snap in Jan or Feb I want you to be totally comfortable! A fan is there for those hot days we get once in a while.
Sleep peacefully in the Queen-sized bed, then enjoy breakfast outside on the patio when weather permits. Our guests have raved about the bed! For an extra guest, there is a twin air bed. (tight but doable if you are on a budget or traveling with child.) We use scent-free laundry products.
Access is through the large fenced-in beautiful, sunny patio in the backyard, filled with organic raised bed vegetable gardens which change seasonally, fruit trees and roses. This is a great location, centrally located between Highway One and Highway 68, near the recreation trail, Frog Pond, beaches and terrific hills for a morning or evening stroll. No smoking inside – okay on patio. Host or gardener may be working in the garden during the daytime.
*Dogs allowed with extra charge of $45. per visit, per pooch. Please advise in advance of any dogs when you are making your booking - i will then send you an alteration to add the pet fee. Pets must be supervised in the backyard at all times. You will be responsible for any pet damage to property. There is a pet section in the FAQ binder which has lots of dog-friendly places in the area. Please also read the following PET GUIDELINES:
- dogs are not permitted on the furniture
- dogs may only be left in studio if they are kenneled and do not bark when left alone in an unfamiliar place, no exceptions
- please bring your own pet bedding and do not use towels, bedspread or bath mats for dogs
- dogs may not be left unattended on the back patio, due to complaints of excessive barking and digging
- dogs not allowed in garden beds
- when walking your pooch, please avoid the neighbors across the street on either corner, as they have complained and I want to keep my neighbors happy! Also, please pick up after your pooch and dispose of properly.
- *stays longer than 3 days will incur additional pet fees.
A sophisticated foodie and thirty-year resident of the Monterey Peninsula, I am a great resource of information if needed. Also, the studio is also stocked with books on the area, local magazines & brochures, and a binder with menus from my favorite restaurants, brochures and information on local attractions, plus various local offers are stashed in the desk drawer. There is a fully equipped gym 2 minutes away for those who want to get their workout in. If you need restaurant recommendations prior to arrival, I am happy to assist. My edited list of favorite go-to spots are in the FAQ binder.
If your party is larger than two (i.e. a 3rd person, or a child) please contact us in advance with questions about twin air bed prior to your arrival. (airbed is stored with extra linens in the closet.)
Rates may be slightly higher during major events including AT&T; Pro-Am, Concours d'Elegance, US Open, Jazz Festival, etc.
I travel frequently, and the main house may be rented out to guests during your visit. These guests have their own separate entrance and space.
Though we do clean the studio thoroughly between guests, you should be aware that we are a dog-friendly property. No cats allowed in the studio.
