Description

There are only two ways to reach the Ocracoke Campgrounds - by ferry, or by plane. The camping area at this special spot includes cold water showers. Note that the sandy soil requires extra-long tent stakes, and that the area does not have any shade. You'll be camping on the dunes with a beach located just a short walk away. Amenities such as gas station and grocery are located in the village.

Left in middle of the night

Dog friendly, but beware if you’re tent camping. Arrived to our camp spot, which was great! set up camp, went to dinner and returned around dusk. The mosquitoes were atrocious, even with bug spray. The bathrooms were clean, but loaded with more mosquitoes. Went back to the tent and settled in for the night. Woke up to my dog very agitated. I assumed some mosquitos had gotten in….but there were none. After feeling like my skin was crawling as well, I turned on the light to see that all of us were covered in sand fleas and bites. They were so tiny that they got through the holes in the netting. The location is perfect, the ocean sounds at night were nice and the stars were incredible…..the bugs were out of control (even with deep woods off bug spray lathered on us). Might be a better experience to those in an RV.

    Ocracoke Island is dog friendly

We took the ferry from OBX to Ocracoke with pooch in tow. He loved the ferry ride and the wind in his hair. We rented a golf cart on the island, and he navigated from the front seat :) Some places don't allow dogs indoors, however they are always welcome at the outdoor patios (almost every place has an outdoor patio). The island is also walkable if you have a younger pet.
