We just got back from a two week road trip along the Pacific Coast with our two large dogs and stayed one night at Sheltered Nook in Tillamook. This wes our third Pacific Northwest road trip with our dogs, but our first time staying here. First, the owners of Sheltered Nook, Hank and Dee, are the friendliest people you'd want to meet. They have two dogs of their own who greet you when you arrive. The tiny houses are actually quite spacious and include a full size kitchen--a true rarity on a road trip! Instead of a tiny strip of grass for the dogs to relieve themselves, they have a large, beautiful, park-like grassy area that overlooks the edge of Tillamook Bay. But wait, it gets better... Just down the road, within walking distance, is the Kilchis Point Reserve. You can take your dogs and walk the 2+ mile loop on well-maintained paths through Oregon rain forest that terminates at an opening to the Tillamook Bay wetlands and some stunning views. Honestly, I can't say enough about how wonderful this place is if you are traveling with dogs. And it doesn't hurt that Hank and Dee have beer and cider on tap and local Tillamook ice cream waiting for you at their small office/store when you get back! This place will definitely be on the itinerary for next time!
