Although it was still September, the lobby was fully decorated for Halloween, one of our favorite holidays. They were very dog friendly with quite a few shops that allow dogs in. Even one of the restaurants allowed us to bring our dog in, although he is quite small.

This was probably our best dog hotel experience. I was sick of staying at Motel 6 and wanted a nice place in Duluth. Yeah, they charge $75 for the dog, but at least you feel like you get something for it. Huckleberry got a great greeting, plus a cool dog bed, free treats, a toy and had a blast. It's not hard to find a grassy spot nearby to walk him and there's even a cool pet store in the hotel. On the plus side, there's no charge for valet parking - which sort of makes up for the pet fee. Our room was clean, nice and had a great view of the lake. The brew house restaurant is a good place to eat and drink.

Hotel was just ok. Sheets on our bed were worn out with big holes. Walking dog was issue. Staff very friendly and helpfully. Ate at the Brewer House restaurant - found a hair in my hamburger.

Fitger’s not only allows dogs, they revel in them. When we checked in the staff greeted our lab with treats and hugs. They came out from behind the banker’s cage/check in area to cuddle him. Jodi was especially kind to the three of us. The hotel complex has a relaxed vibe. The history of the place is fascinating and it’s been repurposed invitingly. Our pup was able to accompany us wherever we went. It seems the guests know to expect dogs and embrace them as well. One fellow listened to our pup growl a bit (young and learning manners) and announced, “Your dog just told me he’d like me to pet him!” 😃. Hotel room was comfy, had a great view of the lake (watched freighters pass by), coffee in the AM and a newspaper outside the door. It felt old-world indulgent. Absolutely worth the splurge.

Really cool old building. Attached shopping is pet friendly. Lake walk is a few steps down right outside the building. Bring your own water bowl. Really big room. Room smelled a bit like animal but allergies were not affected. Friendly staff. Pricey but nice spot!

The whole building was very welcoming to our Piper. I saw in the reviews that some guest puppies received treats in the room but we didn’t. The restaurant servers provided water bowls and lots of attention to our pup. There was a slight mix up with our room at check in. We reserved a lake view room but were told there were none available so we were put in an upgraded city view room even though my confirmation showed lake view. Fortunately, later in the day we were able to move and view that beautiful lake from our window. We already booked another stay in November but I would recommend calling ahead to be sure you are checked into the room you booked.

My husband and I decided it was time to take a vacation with our two labs( both 2 1/2 years old). We did 2 nights at Fitger’s. I was so impressed with our accommodations and the hotel that the review is being written before I even unpack! When we first got to the hotel, we took advantage of the complimentary valet service. They helped unload the car and get us all setup in our room. They provide dog beds, bowls, and even fans to help drown out noises. Our labs aren’t crazy barkers but this was their first night away from home ever so hearing other dogs occasionally bark or a knock on a neighboring door made them bark a couple times. All three restaurants on site had patio seating. We did the Brewhouse and Mexican place. Both were great for the dogs. They brought out water dishes and gave lots of love to our babies which they totally loved.
The Mexican patio did have some pretty friendly pigeons that tormented my bird dogs. But everyone survived. The mall that is attached to the hotel is also dog friendly. Every store had a bowl of treats. Outside if you walk down the street there were some shops that had water bowls out for the dogs. The hotel is right on Lake Superior and has lots of places to take your fury friend for walks and go potty. It truly is a dog friendly area. I am so glad this place was on BringFido. I would have never known. Looking forward to another dog vacation but I don’t know how we are going to top this one!

Great location right next to the Lakewalk. Hotel was very welcoming. In warmer months there are several options for outdoor dining within walking distance where you could bring your pet along.

All the staff we encountered truly seemed to love animals and stopped to say hello to Remi or were curious about her breed. Anytime we asked for anything during our stay or needs we’re met. Even after checking out and we had car trouble the front desk folks helped us out and offered assistance when they wouldn’t of had to.

Fitger’s is a wonderfully interesting hotel with a great staff! However, the bathroom should have been cleaner and the mold should have been removed. That being said, it really is a cool hotel. Dining in the restaurant provides a lovely view over Lake Superior.

This historic property is a great place to stay with your dog. I recommend the Cityside Executive King Room for extra space for your pup. Our dogs loved being greeted by staff with treats, and really had fun going shopping in the pet-friendly stores throughout the mall. Five bones for sure!

Beautiful, historic hotel, the ultimate in pet friendly accomodations. The adjoining small shopping mall is also pet friendly. We were able to stroll in and out of the shops with our golden retriever at our side. The tail system along the lake immediately behind the hotel is safe and perfect for exercising your dog. While the hotel is a bit pricey, it is a fabulous experience over the typical hotel that merely tolerates canine traveling companions.

Health & Safety
Safe Stay: Fitger's Inn has enhanced cleaning and safety measures in place. Hand sanitizer is provided to guests, and rooms are disinfected between each stay. Social distancing measures are in place, as well as physical barriers between staff and guests. Each room has a 24-hour gap period between stays, and hotel staff are required to wear masks.
