Shack by the Sea
This is our home and we make it available when we’re travelling. We have guests who return year after year and book directly with us at the Shack by the Sea site. Go there for more photos and information or join our mailing list.
If you have some dates in mind that appear to be booked, let us know. We occasionally get cancellations or can look at swapping dates we have set aside for ourselves. If you don't see what you're looking for, we’ll do everything possible to make it work for you.
The Shack by the Sea is about living in the moment with the whole family, friends or a special someone, including family members with four legs. Whether this is a time to gather your family, celebrate friendships, or express your love, you'll find this place, a great starting point for making memories by just being here. There are plenty of ways to spend a day --- relaxing, or doing various activities.
The house was built as a family home in West Vancouver in the 1950s and barged up in the '70s to create this wonderful waterfront getaway place. We've renovated and decorated it to provide family gatherings or quiet getaways with the comforts of home and a kitchen equipped for the discerning cook or chef in your group.
The 400 square foot deck is flooded with rays all day and two patio umbrellas on wheels can be set to suit lounging, lunch or gatherings, including a covered seating area with a retractable roof and two walls of sliding glass panels to make star gazing and sea watching comfortable all year round. A 1,000 sq. ft. grassed area between the deck and the beach is perfect for outdoor games we have on hand for guests, such as badminton, bocce and corn hole. The beach is suitable for launching a kayak, SUP or canoe, and refreshing ocean swimming.
Inside, it's 'dialed in' for relaxing in whatever way you define that. There's Netflix, Sonos, comfy sofas and blankies, books, puzzles, crafts and board games. If cooking is a hobby, you'll love how we've set it up. It's got all the gadgets and tools to create yummy meals or snacks, whether you want to spend time in the kitchen or if you'd rather not. There's a 10-foot long dining table ready for memorable meals, while dedicating undisturbed space for those puzzles with a thousand pieces.
When you place your head on the pillow to sleep, you'll love the luxurious linens on Tuft & Needle mattresses. Leave the doors wide open and you can hear the soothing sound of waves in fair weather and crashing waves from the comfort of the living/dining room or kitchen during storms. The gas fireplace provides a cozy atmosphere when you want to curl up with a book, and kicks out heat to keep you comfortable on chilly nights.
Shack by the Sea is designed to cater to families, friends and couples. Up to 6 adults (or a combination of adults and children) will be accommodated in exceptionally comfortable beds. Contact us if you have special circumstances, as we may be able to accommodate your needs, in another way.

Staying here is an oasis on the Salish Sea.
Feel like you're far away without the hassle of a long drive. After departing Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver, a 40-minute ferry will transport you through breathtaking scenery to Langdale ferry terminal, near Gibsons. When you disembark the vessel, the Shack by the Sea is just a 30-min drive. The road gently winds to follow the water's edge through stands of mature Douglas Fir and Cedar trees. You'll see glimpses of the ocean along with parks, homes and farms before reaching the seaside town of Sechelt. You may choose to stop for groceries here or return another time. It's just a 5-minute drive to town.
Take a break from the hustle and bustle.
Settle in. There's front row seating here waiting for you.

“We'll definitely return.”
This well appointed beach house get away was just what we needed to relax and unwind. It has stunning ocean views, a cozy fireplace, a large deck where we ate every night and a grassy area for playing games. It’s just a few minutes drive to many wonderful hiking trails and shopping. We'll definitely return to this lovely retreat.

“Slice of paradise.”
As we listened to the sound of waves gently rolling on shore, we felt totally relaxed. We enjoyed morning coffee on the deck's 270 degree ocean view, or wandered down to be at the water’s edge. Watching the boats and wildlife was mesmerizing. We want to keep this slice of paradise our little secret, but know that it’s best shared and hopefully, you’ll make it there too.”
— Lorraine & John, Trenton, ON
“The setting takes your breath away.”
The #shackbytheseabc is hardly a shack! This beautiful beach cabin is the perfect weekend getaway to unwind with friends and family. We watched eagles and seals, launched our stand up paddle boards, walked the beach, went for a chilly swim, and caught the sunset every night. A true west coast experience!”
