Reviews

Room was not fully clean when I arrived but otherwise it was a nice place to stay with my dog. Close to shopping and restaurants.
- JessieSep. 8, 2022Wonderful place to stay!
The room was spacious, clean, and well-suited to having a dog. They even left a treat basket for him. As I was just passing through Carmel, it was perfectly located right off 1 South. The only thing I regret is that I wasn’t able to stay in one of the cottages, as it wasn’t proposed to me. I ended up on the second floor of the hotel, which was very inconvenient, as I had many things to carry in. I would recommend staying in the cottages.
- KarenAug. 2, 2022Really cute place
We enjoyed our stay at the cottage. We were only there for one night but could have stayed longer. The service was great. Close to Monterrey Ana the 17 mile drive. The site seems to be expanding and upgrading the cottages. Can’t wait to stay there again.
- JessicaJun. 12, 2022Great location
We loved the individual cottage and location. Just perfect for me and my pup!
- DebbieMay. 25, 2022Great stay with room for Improvement
We stayed here in April 2022 on the same weekend as the Big Sur Marathon. I did not know that it was marathon weekend when I booked. We went for a quiet relaxing weekend with the pups. The hotel is very quaint and super close to Carmel Beach (which is off-leash for those who don't know). It's also super close to all our favorite pet friendly restaurants and even a pet supply store with dog wash stations. We stayed in a studio cabin without a kitchenette. It was quite small and needs more counter space or hooks to hang dog leashes, beach towels, etc. But they give you sheets and rags so that the dogs can get on the bed and make themselves at home.
There are some cabins that have small fenced yards for the dogs, so I will definitely request one of these next time. However, there is plenty of space on the property to walk the dogs and even an area in the back that we could let Choo Choo off leash long enough to do his business. Hotel supplies poop bags if needed, but they aren't particular where dogs do their business as long as you pick it up. I believe they are under relatively new ownership so the website info and property maps don't completely match up, but just ask the staff if you have questions. They were very accommodating.
As others have said, the extra $40 per night per dog hurts a little, especially since they only clean the room after check out (I think because of Covid precautions). And marathon morning we were woke up before 7am to the sound of the announcer over loud speakers and we lost power a couple times, I think due to the power pull from the marathon. Overall, it wasn't that bad, but might want to double check that no major events are happening if you are looking for a quiet stay. We will definitely be going back.
- KatherineMay. 22, 2022Just OK
Room was clean. River was nice fir the view but shower was ridiculously small and they had no ice. Ok all in all but not great.
- DaleSep. 14, 2021Awesome Place
The accommodations were top notch. The staff was great.
- MarilynnSep. 4, 2021Not worth the money
Way overpriced for what it is.
- TimothyApr. 7, 2021simple nice cabin room
we stayed in the cabins (they also have motel type rooms). It was very nice and clean. Our dog was comfortable. Location was good for us, although some may want closer to downtown carmel, etc.
- ChristopherMar. 26, 2021Great place.
Loved this place. Only reason it didn’t get 5 bones was because of the $40 per dog per day. A three night stay with our two pugs cost an additional $240 dollars. That kind stung a bit. Great place to stay but consider the additional cost when booking.
- TaraSep. 2, 2020Nicest Staff
Cute little creek behind the Inn and the sweetest staff. Love the dog bowl by the lobby too.
- MichaelMar. 3, 2020Awesome hotel for the money, very peaceful location
What a wonderful hotel! Bathrooms were a little dated but very clean. Room was decorated in a rustic fashion. Carpeted floors in a pet-friendly room is a nice plus. Beautiful balcony in our second floor room with chairs that looked over a wooded stream.
Staff was very friendly and helpful. Lots of shopping within walking distance if you need anything (pet store, hardware store, grocery, clothes shops).
- EveNov. 27, 2019Friendly Service And Very Convenient
Very pleasant. They provide sheet for my dog and room very comfortable. Hope to try out the cottages when they come available.
- BrettSep. 11, 2019Avoid
Disappointing for the price they charge - avoid, go elsewhere, skip this place. It’s old and needs to be completely redone but they are just slapping a coat of paint on the old and calling it good. Total fail, lack of amenities and simply not a nice place
- DorothySep. 1, 2019Clean but small, very dog friendly
We had a studio cottage (with kitchenette). It felt a little cramped; there was no counter space in kitchen b/c microwave and coffee maker. The shower was very small (i'm 5'5" and had trouble washing my hair without bumping elbows).
That being said, the place was clean and the property was nice to walk around with a couple grassy areas. They provided a top sheet to protect the bed (we always bring one but it was nice for them to think of it) and provided a couple poop bags at check-in. There were also bags & trash can by the grassy area. Two shopping/eating centers less than a mile away with lots of food choices and several dog friendly patios.
The whole area, however, is not pedestrian friendly (no sidewalks!) but that's not the hotel's fault. We were able to walk through the neighborhood instead of the highway to get Carmel Craft Brewery. There is a big shoulder on the main highway but again, no sidewalks.
It's a 10ish minute drive into Carmel, 20ish to Pacific Grove/Monterey.
- ChristinaMore than a year agoGreat place to stay
I stayed in a cottage with my dog. Upon arrival I was given a map of places/things to do. The map included all the dog friendly restaurants in Carmel. The staff was super friendly. They offered an extra sheet for my dog and the cottage had towels for her as well. There is a nice green area for the dogs to run around (on leash). There is also 2 dog washing stations. Some of the cottages had private patios, but mine didn’t. I know #21 has a fenced patio. It is a cottage, so it’s not huge. It was perfect for what I needed. The cottages aren’t brand new, but they’re clean. I can’t wait to stay here again. It was a very relaxing fun experience.

Our cottage had a toaster, coffee maker, microwave, mini fridge, cook top, cookware, and service ware in the kitchenette. The bed was comfy. The water pressure in the shower is wonderful. The grounds are beautiful. Succulents, bushes, flowers, ferns, evergreen trees, horsetail, and more. The hummingbirds are happy here and not a bird feeder in sight. The coffee in the lobby is local and tasty. A short path to Carmel River. Paths all over the grounds for leisure strolls with a 13-year old dog who takes it slow. This is almost like camping without the sleeping bags and cook fires. Our new favorite spot. 9 minute drive to the beach. 4 minute drive to Safeway, CVS, Pet Food Express, and some great dining and eateries (dog friendly) in Crossroads Shopping Center. The staff here (all hours of the day and night) are truly service oriented.
- DanielleMore than a year agoBest stay ever!
We had such an amazing time in the cottages. There was a patio for the dogs to get some outdoor time without worrying about them running off. A huge jetted tub for relaxing, the bed was big enough for us and our 2 big dogs and very comfortable! A great spot with a water fountain and chairs to hang out. We barley wanted to even leave to sight see! Will definitely be staying here any chance we get with our fur babies!!
- EllenMore than a year agoHidden Gem!
We stayed in one of the cottages. It's like summer camp. Brody loved the grounds, especially the meadow. The location is convenient to everything, and the staff is very accommodating. We'll be back.
- RobertaMore than a year agoprivate cottages, lovely grounds
Lola and I stayed here for one night - booked it last minute - pleasantly surprised with cottage #21 studio with kitchenette. Might be cramped with hubby too, but perfect for me and the dog. Lots of quail (keep your dog on leash!), crickets and frogs. And great organic coffee from Carmel Valley Roasting co that was plenty strong. The privacy and quiet make up for the small cottages I think. We will be back with hubby next time! Hoyle rooms seem too close to hwy for my liking so will stick to cottages.
