- DianaNov 7, 2023Good location
Good location but room was very outdated. Only one outlet in bed area, which already had a light plugged in.
- GaryAug 14, 2023Needs updating
Once a prime property now in need of repairs/updating. No screens, no bed spreads, no refrigerator, no microwave with uncomfortable seating. The gardens were blooming attractively but in need of work. The room price for this area is reasonable, maybe too reasonable. I would stay again but bring an ice chest and a comforter.
- HeatherJul 12, 2023Great location
Drain plug in bath broken. Heat in room not working.
- Dennis and lynneJun 21, 2023Lovely Inn in Mendocino
This was a very nice property. The room decor reflected the Victorian look of the town. The room was spacious and very nice. The only minuses for me were no in-room coffee and no breakfast. But we loved this hotel and so did Luna!
- DanielMay 21, 2023Beautiful old hotel
A well kept, lovely old hotel. We really enjoyed our stay: restful sleep, good coffee and sitting on the porch looking out on the wind swept moor and the sea. Staff friendly and helpful. Walking the dog in this beautiful natural place couldn’t have been finer.
- ShirleyFeb 20, 2023Great Location
Tried to charge us $80 instead of posted $25 first night then $15 for next night. They did credit us for $40 after I complained. Place is run down. The pics were not accurate. Tons of ants in our bathroom. Managed to bring some home by mistake. The whole facility was in poor repair. Dirty windows. Chairs were laying in the dirt off of our patio. Patio needed to be swept off. Much rotting wood outside. Not worth the $179 we spent a night plus taxes. Very disappointing. Manager was very nice though
- SummerDec 7, 2022Mendocino is beautiful
Even though the TV didn’t work and there was no refrigerator or microwave in the room, and coffee was in the hotel lobby, the room was spacious, the bed was big and comfortable, and the view was lovely. Also, Mendocino is just gorgeous so it’s not really about the room. Go out and explore! The Hill House and Mendocino Hotel are going through a change of ownership so I suspect the rooms will be updated. I was born and raised in Mendocino so just being able to stay at a hotel in town with my dog feels like being home.
- DarcySep 23, 2022Dogs were happy
Drapes threadbare falling off the wall. Many Bathroom tiles broken. Bathroom sink cracked. Shower extremely narrow and I’m not a large person. Wall paper peeling off walls. TV out in entire hotel for past month and 1/2. Grounds all overgrown. No air conditioning, no cross ventilation. No screen door on sliding door to keep dog in at night. Positive walking distance to town and easy place to potty dog.
- KyleMay 30, 2022Nice Inn
Walking distance to everything.
- DebiJul 10, 2021Great location/needs updating
Our room was on the first floor and quite noisy. In addition, there was a used mask lying on the floor. Plumbing did not regulate hot water, showers were “interesting”. Unfortunately, there is no privacy on the deck.
- WendyJun 6, 2021Perfect setup for dogs
This was a super setup for ease of walking our dog. Nice walking distance to the shops. The room was cute, a little dated but clean. We would absolutely stay here again.
- RitaNov 3, 2020Absolutely wonderful
Focusing on the canine perspective, Hill House Inn was terrific: ground-level room meant easy in-and-out for potty breaks, there’s lots of space to walk and garden plants to sniff, and the inn is located in a pretty quiet location with little traffic that is also very close to the main shops of downtown (part of the walk is without sidewalks, so be careful). I believe all of the downstairs rooms have deck access, so perfect for warming old doggy bones. One thing to watch out for at night: I’m pretty sure I saw a skunk toodling along.
The inn itself was gorgeous, and I never worried about COVID while I was there. Masks are required inside the main lobby, checkin staff are behind plexiglass, and guests seem to be spread across the inn to prevent contact. The room was decorated with local prints with a floral carpet, cheery but just worn enough to feel comfortable. The room had all the basic amenities, although stirrers in the little coffee packs would have been useful.
We definitely will be back!

Easy walk into town with a feeling of being in the country. Very good Covid-19 precautions - felt safe.
