Reviews
Visitors praise the Margaritaville Hotel San Diego Gaslamp Quarter for its prime location, pet-friendly amenities, and friendly staff. They note some minor drawbacks like the lack of special dog amenities and the $50 valet parking fee, but overall find the hotel to be an excellent choice for a stay with their furry companions.

- GabyJul 2, 2023We loved it
We are committed to coming back to Solamar. It it just a beautiful place and in the heart of the downtown area. I felt completely safe bringing my dogs out to potty at 12am & 4:30am. Yes, the potty area was outside on the first floor- I did worry if the girls would make it down- but they did every time. Yes, you do have to walk across the street to the trash can or around the corner, which is fine; we usually go for a walk on potty breaks anyways so 20 more feet is not that big of deal. They allow the dogs at the pool bar which is nice. Plenty of dog friendly bars/restaurants nearby. They have the bell desk available to help with luggage/crates at the valet area which was a HUGE bonus and that alone was worth valet parking to save my husband all the trips to the car. I understand the $50 parking can scare people away, but I feel like that is a common practice nowadays. I was happy to pay it knowing I was in a safe part of town & was able to leave my dog when I needed to and was at peace. If you are contemplating, just stop. This IS the right place for you and Fido.
- VeronicaMar 19, 2023Beautiful hotel
For a dog friendly hotel it’s not very dog friendly. Relief station is outside the hotel and there’s no trash cans so you have to cross the street to throw your bags away.
- RobertFeb 22, 2023Great staff
Exceptional corner room with spa tub. Best deal ever. Very attentive staff.
- MargaretSep 12, 2022Incredibly dog friendly
Polly was welcomed with a treat, she was able to lounge by the pool, and greeted by all the staff. Blake was very sweet.
- DeniseApr 9, 2022Great location
Great walking distance to many places! Dogs were comfortable in the room as well.
- DennisJan 2, 2022Pup pub
They offer no special dog amenities (bed/bowl/etc), but they do allow dogs in the rooftop bar for Thursday Yappy hour!
- ReyleneSep 26, 2021Great place for dogs
It’s the only hotel with grass all around outside and next to some great restaurants.
- TarahAug 3, 2021Absolutely loved it!
This is where I will stay with my small dogs every time I come to San Diego. Beautiful hotel!
- MiAug 1, 2021Overall a great stay
Great location in Gaslamp. $50 valet which it pretty pricey but it has in and out privileges so it was most convenient. Our small to medium sized dogs (2) were comfortable in the room and could run around. Astroturf in front of hotel, but there’s grass a couple blocks down by Petco park. Wonderful and very friendly hotel staff, but the hotel is a bit older.
- SofiaJul 13, 2021Great Experience
We loved the customer service. I was surprised to receive a text message asking if anything was needed once I settled into the room. Everything was so easy. I like that there were areas in the front of the hotel for my fur baby to use the restroom. Usually my fur baby takes a long time to find a spot to do his business but it was right away during our stay. The employees there were very attentive. Definitely will be staying at this hotel again when staying at San Diego.
- SarahJun 27, 2021Great location for weekend with my pup
The hotel is located in a great location….walking distance from Petco Park and the seaport village…15 min drive from Coronado Dog Beach or Old Town. The room was very clean, hotel was quiet, and the staff was friendly. I dinged one star…only because this is a review on BringFido. I reserved the room through BringFido, so the hotel should’ve known a dog was coming. I had to ask for dog bowls etc. The staff quickly accommodated my request. If this were a review for any other hotel site, I would give 5 star.
- ChrisJun 24, 2021Great Location!
Had a good stay with our pets, location is central to many restaurants and nightlife. Hotel staff are friendly and accommodating, though the valet parking was a little pricey, it was convenient and located at the hotel, staff retrieved vehicle in a timely manner. I will stay here again when I’m in town, with or without my four-legged friends.
- AshleyMar 18, 2021Downtown San Diego
The hotel is clean and updated with lots of covid precautions; $50 valet parking fee
- BrettMar 15, 2021Great location, super dog friendly
The staff there is great, the location has a number of dog-friendly restaurants in the area & plenty of nightlife.
They have some extra leashes & balls, bring your own bowls though. Thumbs up, we'll be back!
- ShellyFeb 21, 2021Perfect with your pup
The hotel was in a perfect location, close to ocean and to gas lamp. Clean, pet friendly, would stay again
- TheodoreFeb 16, 2021Great location, but some unwelcome surprises
Honestly, the hotel itself was fine. BUT, upon checking out, we were hit with $50 for parking and another $25 resort fee. I understand that those things are typically paid at hotels, but we pre-paid through BringFido, and there was no mention. In fact, at check in, we all heard the host tell us parking was included. Shame really, but the room was $150, so they added 50%...won't stay there again.
- JacobNov 16, 2020Amazing services
From the moment you walk in, you and your friend are treated with smiles and helped to get checked in smoothly. I accidentally booked the wrong weekend, but I was still able to get a room and the service was just as great. Rooms were spacious and clean and since it’s in the middle of gas lamp district, you have lots of opportunities to take a stroll with your friend, and enjoy the sites of San Diego. I look forward to staying here again next time!!!!
- MichelleOct 18, 2020Great spot., but...
Hotel is very welcoming of dogs and staff are wonderful. Great location too. But, being that I look for information HERE I’m giving my honest opinion. We would come back, for sure. I just wouldn’t be surprised to find there is nothing special for dogs. No treats, no beds, nothing. That’s fine I was just surprised since everyone raved and I come to BringFido to find great pet spots. Aside from that, I would have given the hotel a higher rating, but I didn’t know there was no service (housecleaning) unless you stay for 7 days or more. So, when we ran out of toilet paper, we had to ask for it. When we needed towels, we had to ask. The ultimate problem was there was only ONE working elevator and it’s COVID so there were limited numbers of folks allowed on per ride. It was quite a nightmare.
- BrittanyOct 15, 2020Amazing Hotel
Hotel Solarmar was a fantastic hotel to stay for me and my dogs. My friend and I took a weekend trip to San Diego and last minute our airbnb pulled out due to the amount of pets. Well Hotel Solarmar came in for the win, when they were able to accomadate 2 adults and 4 dogs. Every one was very friendly and understanding. The hotel was very clean/ sanitized and guest were nice and enjoyed seeing the dogs. I'd recommend this hotel to everyone!
- E bSep 28, 2020Great Location- Easy Stay
They offered Dog Beds and Bowls- even though my guy decided he wanted to sleep half the night under my bed. Had a great time, our dog was allowed everywhere we went in the hotel.
- DonnaAug 23, 2020Very dog friendly
This hotel does not just accomodate pets they are legit pet friendly! my dog even got treats from the valet. the hotel is a five minute walk from Petco Park where there is a large grassy area for your dog to “do his business “ The staff are all extremely friendly. We’ll be back for sure!

Room was great and location was perfect. Fido was happy
- ElizabethDec 7, 2019Great location and very dog friendly
We really enjoyed our stay! They were very welcoming of our dog and super responsive to any requests. Love the complimentary daily coffee/tea station and nightly wine hour. Only drawback is dogs aren’t allowed at either restaurant, even though one is outdoors.

- DerekAug 22, 2019"Dog friendly" is an understatement
Incredibly impressed with how accommodating the Kimpton Solamar was to me and my Dachsund. Many "pet friendly" hotels are not as friendly as they are tolerant, but this is an exception--exceptionally warm and welcoming. Beautiful hotel with great amenities. The pool deck and lounge area on the 4th floor are just delightful!
- EricJun 16, 2018Not the Kimpton Standards
No pet welcome at checkin.
No pet standards like other Kimpton properries.
No pets at the bar.
No pets at the pool.
No return for us. - AnnaMar 4, 2018Loved this hotel, they loved my doggie
No dog fee, beautiful hotel, great location. They gave my dog a treat at reception and the staff was very dog friendly, saying hello to my doggie and offering water and a welcome. Even valet guy pet my dog. We loved this hotel and would stay again.
