Serves the purpose of a place to sleep, and to be close to the beach at a reasonable rate. Sheets had stains, hair found in bed, on towels, and in shower.

The room smelled like smoke and was very warm. When we opened windows we discovered the source of the smoke is from behind the unit. It's really irritating my asthma. Also plug in bathroom does not work - GFI is out and right next to a sink so this is a safety concern as well as an inconvenience if you need to dry or curl your hair. No dryers are provided so bring your own but you have to dry your hair by the TV. Also, I had to wipe down the shower to rid it of hairs and mold before I could shower. Staff at the front desk are rarely available. We stopped by the office to discuss our concerns on 3 occasions, but nobody available. Spend a little extra money and choose another location.

I really enjoyed my stay here - my room was comfy and had a lovely ocean view. The only downside was the regular congregation of people who seemed to be selling and or sharing drugs in the parking lot. Sketchy!

I liked the style of the rooms and found the bed comfortable. Being across from the beach and walking path is great! The nighttime walkers though were anything but quiet so if you are a light sleeper, bring ear plugs.

We booked Ala Mar's more expensive King room and were excited when we drove up and saw the location...super convenient and beautifully sited across from the beach and within walking distance to everything on State Street. The man who greeted us (Wade) was very nice. But the room...woah Mama...right back to the 1960's and not in a fun retro way. The bed was creaky, mattress saggy, furniture old and shabby, and the sliding glass door wouldn't lock (a problem as it was first floor facing the street). The room reeked of chemicals but didn't feel clean. We couldn't get fresh air because we didn't feel safe leaving the door open and the only way to move air around is an old, loud floor fan. Our pup wasn't given anything although we did feel like it was fine to have him there and there are lots of grass strips nearby for potty time. We definitely will not return.

These are the last non renovated rooms in Santa Barbara. The staff is wonderful and you're on the beach so you put up with leaky faucets and unclean floors. But you're on the beach!! Near Stearn's Wharf.

The location is perfect. The staff is very helpful. My pup liked it as well.
The only minus is the quality of the rooms. There is no A/C, and it was tough to cool the room. That being said, it was the only detractor from a perfect 5 bones rating.
