Great Location, Dog friendly staff
Clean room, convenient to dog area, nice place to walk dog, easy access to Riverfront, I95, DE Memorial bridge; great breakfast; will definitely stay there again. Only hotel in area that allows all size dogs. Only complaint was dog waste station was full (mostly people’s trash), and bag was not changed while I was there.

Not the best
It looked like they were doing some work on the place because the room numbers were taped to the walls and some were falling off. Our room was dirty, there was dirt on the sheets in one of the beds and a dirty towel hanging on the bathroom door. There was a dead bug in the bathroom too. It was fine for just a place to crash on a long drive home but not for enjoying your stay.

Not up to expectations
I stayed here with my chocolate lab, largely based on the previous glowing review. Unfortunately, my experience was not so good. The rooms where dogs are allowed are in a wing of the hotel that is in disrepair. The air conditioning isn't working well and the room smelled musty and damp. The shower door had fallen off the track and was nearly impossible to move, and, although I asked for a room with a king bed, I was told all dog-friendly rooms are doubles. The staff was very pleasant, but the overall experience was not great. Be foreworned.

Excellent choice for man and beast!
We chose this hotel because of it's extremely reasonable and less restrictive pet policy. It was only a $10 charge for dogs under 50 pounds. Our lab mix tops that scale a bit, but we figured she could suck in her gut and pass. The staff didn't even blink at the fact that Maggie was a little on the chubby side of the policy. They welcomed her to come right through the gorgeous lobby and everything. I expected there would be a separate entrance since their lobby with the double staircase and marble looking floor seemed pretty elegant, but they were great about her being a guest there. The staff is really helpful and nice. The place is very clean, and comfortable. Our room was outstanding. King size bed, nice mahogony headboard, and fluffy covers, and lots of pillows. We weren't expecting this kind of quality for a pet friendly room, but we were pleasantly surprised. The flatscreen TV, free wireless internet, and desk area were all really great. We didn't order food, but the room service menu looked delicious and very gourmet. We peeked into the bar which was also very luxurious. The only downfall to this place is that there really isn't much nearby it if you are planning on walking. It is situated between a highway and a cemetary. If you don't mind short drives to get where you are going, I would highly reccomend this hotel. And while you are in the area...We ate at the Casablanca restaurant, right down the street, which was terrific -amazing atmosphere, belly dancers and seven courses of delicious morroccan food! We were uneasy leaving Maggie in the room while we had dinner, (guilty dog parents) but the hotel staff took our number in case there were any problems, and she was fine when we came back...I should mention Maggie is a laid back older dog who loves to sleep. This might not work with a younger more energetic dog! We would also recommend Newark's Home Grown restaurant which allowed Maggie to sit with us on the porch while we had a delicious organic lunch. Maggie loved her hike at nearby White Clay Creek State Park. All in all DE is a great place to take a dog, and the Clarion is an excellent choice for all.
