So disappointing when you arrive at a hotel and realize that the photos online were really misleading. This place was kind of shabby and grubby outside when I arrived at 5:30 pm, and the plastic bags of beer bottles left next to the overflowing trash containers OUTSIDE were still there at 9 the next morning.
When I checked in, the handsome but borderline sullen front desk guy reacted as if he didn’t know what I was talking about when I smiled, gave my name, and said “I’ve booked one of your pet-friendly rooms!” First he looked at the screen and looked as if my reservation wasn’t there. Then he said, “We do have rooms for dogs—but you have to pay $25 extra.” That was my understanding (although the actual fee wasn’t what I’d recalled) but he acted as if he just HAPPENED to have a dog-friendly room available. A bit unnerving, as I was in town to pick up a puppy that day!
Since I had a full-sized crate to bring to the room for the pup, I asked if I could use a cart of some kind— the dollies which even budget hotels always seem to have for luggage. “We don’t have that,” said the unhelpful young fellow. THE END. No “but I can help you get your stuff inside— when will you need me?” or “Maybe you should try the Hampton Inn” or anything. Just a disinterested “NO.”
Then he gave me my room key, announcing the number in a normal tone of voice, as some guy stood there, waiting to check in. That’s a classic security mistake. Infuriating! And then it turns out my “dog friendly” room was on the 2nd floor…and no elevator. So I returned with the pup, and the large crate, and no elevator, and wondering if the man who’d heard my room number announced at the desk might be waiting for me.
Happily, it was only about 6 stairs, and the crate was lighter than I’d recalled. BUT the door to that staircase was held open by a stone, apparently for someone who needed to get in without a key. I couldn’t believe it. I kicked the stone out of the door jamb when I’d gotten in.
And the next day, when I was leaving without breakfast, as nothing about it seemed appetizing or trustworthy, with one machine of some kind out of order, and what appeared to be the owner family lounging around unhappily. And NOBODY EVEN ACKNOWLEDGING THE EXISTENCE OF A PAYING GUEST! I discovered that the side door (which is actually on the street side of the place) was again held open by a stone, which I again kicked away. Nice security, eh?
And to top it off, the area which I assume was the designated dog relief zone, i.e. outside that non-secure door, was an icky mix of scrubby patches of grass, loads of dog poops, and zillions of cigarette butts. Just perfect for a fresh little 8 wk old puppy to catch a case of worms, or choke on a few cigs!
On the plus side, the room was fairly clean. The mattress was VERY comfortable! And it was quiet. I think most of the other guests were construction workers. But there was a funny little bit of what looked like dried blood on the sheet… and a long black hair. Also, the lamps on the street side of the room wouldn’t turn on, although they were plugged in. So, I would not suggest spending $80 on this place, when there are several other options nearby. I would definitely never use it again. Just a very depressing experience.

Safe Stay: Super 8 by Wyndham Clinton has enhanced cleaning and safety measures in place, and follows the Count on Us (Wyndham) cleanliness and sanitization policy. Masks and hand sanitizer are provided to guests, and rooms are disinfected between each stay. Social distancing measures are in place, as well as physical barriers between staff and guests. Each room has a 24-hour gap period between stays, and hotel staff are required to wear masks. This property advises that guests without full COVID-19 vaccination must wear masks.
