  Room was on 2nd floor requiring my dog to climb 14 stairs on steel grated stairs - not good. Room had a moldy smell. Check-in associate was very nice which was the only positive event. Checkout was a surly male. Overall it was not a good stay for us other than the price. You get what you pay for or what is available.

  Not only do these folks welcome dogs, the off duty employees played with my dog. Bottom line - I plan to return.

  Go somewhere else

  Rooms are okay and no carpet is a plus, but the pics look better than the actual hotel. Dirty on the outside, construction all around. No real place for dogs although they accept them. Looks like they might be trying to put more areas in, but not even close to being ready. Just getting into the place is challenging. A grassy spot on the north side hadn't been mowed and was full of weeds and who knows what else. The refrigerator in my room didn’t have an ice box, so the girl at the front desk put my ice packs in the employee freezer, as I was traveling across 6 states. She was very accommodating but at 5:30 am when I needed to leave, the guy at the front desk could barely speak to me because he had been awakened by the buzzer. They discontinued breakfast due to Covid, so they say.

  Great room for our furry friend AND us!

  This was the first pet friendly hotel we stayed in that did not have carpeting! Boy, does that ever make sense! The wood floor was very clean and the rest of the room was extremely comfortable for humans and dogs!

  This is kind of like...

  The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel without the charm or interesting people. It's not dog-friendly so much as pet-tolerant. The room was a bizarre non-Euclidean space and even the toilet is some weird rocking chair. My doggo hated it and so did I. There are better options in Des Moines, and you should take them. The one saving grace to this property is that it is next to a gas station that has an awesome taco truck in it's parking lot. Get the carne asada burrito. You're welcome.

  Dogs welcome

  The room had flooring which was nice for a pet. There wasn’t lot of grass outside so if more than a quick potty break is needed you will have to drive. Treats in the lobby would be a nice touch.

  Red Roof Inn is usually satisfactory and this one was a step above the usual. Will not hesitate to stay here again.

  Convenient Location

  Good location, clean. Quite dated and rough looking on the outside - but rooms are spacious and clean. Friendly / helpful staff.

  Old building & strange area but clean room

  The area was strange and the hotel was dated. If you have a dog, do not use the stairs at the back of the hotel, they are metal and have teeth (to prevent slippage) but it was so painful for my dogs paws she refused to take more than two steps. There is a carpeted staircase inside the building we ended up using instead.

  Great For The Price

  It’s no frills but for the price and no fee for the dog it works. the neighborhood isn’t great, but that’s how it goes, it’s not as if you’ll be walking around that much. It’s a short drive to places so that’s no problem. There’s a strip of grass for ‘business’, so all is good!

  Nice rooms

  Rooms are much nicer than outer appearance would suggest. Hotel doesn't have much green space but there is a nice walking neighborhood behind it.

  Convenient location

  Easy to find right off I-80. Exterior of hotel pretty dated but the rooms had been updated nicely and was very clean. Room had a door to the outside for easy unloading and bringing our dog in and out. There was also a door to the inner hall for easy access to front desk and breakfast room. Breakfast pretty basic but adequate. biggest downside was practically no grass anywhere for doggy relief. The front desk was very helpful finding us a free dog park in Altoona, just an easy 10-12 minute drive from the hotel. Was a life saver for us as our dog does not like to do his business on a leash! We would stay there again.
