Description

New Orleans has been built on a musical legacy equal parts traditional and improvisational — and now, Kimpton Hotel Fontenot is taking a page from that songbook by riffing on the standard Crescent City hotel, creating something contemporary and new. But it still embodies the NOLA spirit and honors the area’s over-the-top style with a few surprises, including the magnificent Peacock Room, an ornate gathering spot filled with a menagerie of prints and patterns. Expect five-star service that’s anything but stuffy, chic design mixed with playful touches, food and drink that satisfies the soul, and an atmosphere that has the chops to impress locals and visitors alike.

    Great location and staff

Only thing I can really complain about is they need a closer dog walking area.

    Bone temps, y'all

It's no surprise that this Kimpton property made our dogs feel welcome. The generous Kimpton pet policy is as well-known as the hotel group's striking design sensibility. (Also true, our pups were better behaved than most of the people watching Mardi Gras parades pass in front of the hotel.) But perhaps the main attraction of this particular hotel is the proximity of Lafayette Square, an oasis in the density of downtown, and with a little more of a hike, the greenspace of Duncan Plaza with its very small but useful dog park enclosure.

    Beautiful hotel

This hotel is gorgeous; Moen fixtures, plush duvet, soft pillows, smart TV, even a yoga mat in the closet! The 16th floor and above offer a nice view of the Mississippi River and the super dome. It’s a short walk to bourbon street and the French quarter. You can stumble back from the casino. Right across the street is Mother’s which I was pleased to find out opened as early as 7 and served breakfast all day. It has a well lit laid parking lot across the street, and a covered parking garage at the end of the block where valet can park your car. I booked this room because everyone on this app ranked it 5/5.

The hotel I was going to book (which was literally right next door to this one) did not have as good reviews so when I read that others were greeted with water, dog bowls and biscuits I decided to pony up the (substantial) extra cash to book with this hotel. I will be the only person leaving 4 bones. It was a nice hotel, but I did not get any extra perks for booking with dogs. I didn’t even get a complimentary bottle of water that I was told every guest gets on check in. In fact when I mentioned I never got a water and requested one before our walk down to the river I was pointed in the direction of a bodega.

The staff was nice, the coffee shop gal and the gentlemen who valeted my vehicle were rock stars! It was also noisy, which was the main complaint of the other nearby hotels. I could hear the people above me. I could hear the people next to me. I could hear the road noise. I could hear the dog at the end of the hall barking. Long story short, it was a nice hotel, I had a good stay, but I left feeling like I overpaid for my hotel.

    Gorgeous property in downtown

Very hospitable, even had bowls, bones, and a bed waiting in the room for my pups. It’s worth the extra $$! (Note: only valet parking available!)

    Beautiful hotel

Very friendly staff. They were super welcoming to our dog, Lilli. They even brought her water and a biscuit during the daily happy hour.

    Friendly staff and nice location

We enjoyed our one night stay at the Kimpton. The room was very comfortable and new. As other have mentioned there’s not much grass immediately next to the hotel, more of a garden strip across the street with mulch and some weeds. Not a problem for our dog, but maybe for some.

    Amazing

We had absolutely zero issues with the hotel room or staff. Everyone was super friendly and the room was amazing! We got lucky and got a room in the 18th floor with an amazing view! My kitty cat Rocket absolutely loved it!! Loved the atmosphere of the hotel. Only thing heads up travelers with a cargo carrier on their car, you won’t be able to park in the hotel garage, as it will not make the height clearance, you’ll have to pay to park in the parking lot across the street. Highly recommend! Wished we could’ve stayed longer than one night to explore a bit more.

    Perfect Stay

We recently stayed at Kimpton while on a road trip from Texas and needed a place that allowed our 1 year old pup. We loved everything about this place. It is beautiful and the rooms were very large and spacious. It was perfect for our pup to run around. We were far enough from the elevator where our dog was not disturbed by constant noise so that was great. I was also very happy on how clean the whole room was. It was so nice and the bed was very comfortable. It did not seem like they had "pet rooms" as some hotels do. Those rooms usually, in my opinion aren't as clean. The staff was very friendly. Our first night we didn't arrive till 1AM due to road closures, the staff welcomed us with a smile and complimentary drinks. It was refreshing considering the night we had. They do take a deposit fee at check in. It was returned about 4 days after our stay to our bank.

We had read the reviews on this website and other platforms and were concerned about the self parking lot. It actually was not bad and the whole area was pretty well lit. We arrived late and it never felt unsafe. We downloaded the app for it and it ended up being way cheaper than the hotel valet. Just be mindful of the hours you select depending on your arrival and checkout the prices can be tricky for small amount of hours: 0-3 is $18, 4-9 is $24, and 10-24 is $40. Another concern we read about in the reviews was the dog relief areas. While yes, there is only one patch of grass located in a median near the hotel, there are some other larger areas your dog can go. Our dog is not picky on his potty spots so the large mulch and bush area connected to the self parking lot was a perfect place for him. He was able to walk around the perimeter of the parking lot and we took him there every time.

The hotel allows you to leave your pet in the room unattended as long as they are well behaved and receive no complaints. They will take your number and call you if anything happens. We left our pup one night and it was a great way to get out on the town and even enjoy the hotels gorgeous bar/lounge. During our stay we also saw plenty of pets around and you could barely hear any in the halls of the rooms. Hotel is perfect walking distance from most places. It was about a 14min walk to bourbon street. We will definitely be staying here again! Had a fantastic time.

    Beautiful Hotel

This hotel is stunning. The lobby, the bar and restaurant, and our room were all beautifully decorated. The staff was warm and welcoming to us and our dog. There is no close grassy area, we had to take Billie to a park 2 blocks away to poop on grass (she'll pee on dirt and there is some of that across the street from the hotel), so that wasn't super convenient, but other than that this hotel is wonderful.

    WHAT A GEM

Situated between the French Quarter and the Garden District - with an easy walk to both - the Kimpton Hotel Fontenot was fantastic. Easy and FRIENDLY Staff at arrival and check-in. Helpful, professional and always a smile and good morning, hello and good evening. Room was great - clean, comfortable and the bed was COMFY.

    Bad location for dogs

We were given a room on the 10th floor after requesting to be away from elevator and high foot traffic due to having our dogs with us. Room was very clean and spacious. Only complaint is there is no grass around the property for the dogs to go. Only place we found was in the median on the road which was pretty dangerous.
