The inn is on the site of Farview, the estate of Mary Roberts Rinehart, famous writer of popular mystery stories. Most of the estate, along with hundreds of homes and summer cottages and thousands of acres of forest, was destroyed in the fire of October, 1947. The stone steps and walls on the grounds are remnants of the original Rinehart estate.
