Reviews
- Mary annApr 16, 2024Great Room in a Historic Hotel
A great change from the same old same old. This historic hotel has character galore, and the room was lovely.
- BaileyNov 2, 2023Quiet stay in a quirky town
My senior dog and I stopped overnight while driving between Idaho and Arizona. The town of Ely is a historic, quirky little casino town. The outside of the hotel is a spectacular mix of serious history and kitsch. There's a walk of fame that shows all the famous guests who've stayed before you. I was worried when we entered the lobby. It was loud and smoky. However, our room on the third floor was perfectly quiet and smoke-free.
The rooms are small and there are few outlets, but I actually prefer them to most modern hotels. The bed was ultra comfy, breakfast (from the on-site Dennys) was a nice touch, and so was the free margarita voucher. The Chinese restaurant next door even let me bring my dog with me to pick up my dinner. The front desk ladies were super friendly, as were all the housekeeping staff members my dog had to say hello to. We'd definitely visit again!
- MartiOct 18, 2023Nice stay
Staff was very kind.
- MicheleOct 8, 2023Cozy room
Only complaint is that one must walk through smoke-filled lobby to get to elevator. The staff are great!
- JenniferOct 7, 2023Disappointing
We had reserved a room with 2 double beds. When we arrived, at 6:30 pm, we found that they had switched us to a smaller cheaper room with one queen bed. We did finally get a King bed but no doubles were left. They had given our double room to someone else. They lied and tried to blame the mistake on BringFido. When I asked about the difference in cost they lied again and said all the rooms were about the same cost. The room we got was actually $13 dollars cheaper on their website. When we walked into the room it smelled of VOMIT! We complained to the front desk staff and to BringFido. There was no other room so we had to stay. Don’t stay here.
- LauraJun 13, 2023Great old casino/hotel
The staff was great. The casino was fun especially since they had no problem with our dog. The only thing is the room was small and quite old. We had a nice stay and would go back!
- RickSep 10, 2022Treated our dogs well
The people at the front desk even had treats for them. But be aware that this hotel has a casino on the main floor, so that floor and the elevator smelled heavily of smoke.
- CourtneyAug 26, 2022Quaint and friendly
Staff was very friendly towards our pups and us. Room was recently remodeled and was perfect for our short stay. We were thoroughly impressed from check in to check out and would highly recommend!
- DebbieAug 18, 2022They love their history & your dog!
Hotel Nevada and Gambling Hall in Ely was a pleasant little gem in the old part of town. We chose this location because we are traveling with our two pups. After doing a search on the BringFido app, we ended up picking this location. They are pet friendly and allow 2 dogs for a small fee of $15 total. The only issue pertaining to the dogs is that even though there are several open areas and parks within walking distance, there are no fenced in areas where you can just let your pups wander about freely. (The hotel has lots of parking areas that could be used to create a small enclosed dog park!) However, all of the staff we dealt with were dog friendly! They wanted to give them treats whenever we walked by the check-in counter!
The interior of the hotel contains so many unique displays of antique items, historical photos and animal mounts such as elk, deer and ram. They definitely put their own touch in decorating! When you enter, unfortunately, you’re greeted by the obnoxious odor of cigarette smoke. If you are non-smokers, like us, this is definitely a negative! Good new though, smoking is not permitted in the rooms, so, once you get to your room, you escape the smoke. (Except the remnants of it on your hair and clothes.)
The rooms are smaller than modern hotel rooms, but it was plenty for us. They’ve kept it pretty original. Wish I had gotten a pic before we made ourselves at home. The four-post bed was a little squeaky but the mattress was comfortable. You get a choice of real flat pillows or real fluffy pillows. It was surprisingly quiet and even though our room looked out onto the main street, we really did not hear any street noise. Nor did we hear any of our neighbors next to or above us. Complimentary items in the room were numerous!(coffee, bottled water, soaps, shampoos, conditioners, facial wipes) Although it is very obvious that it is a really old hotel. It’s really run down, but it was clean and smelled fresh. It would be a lot of fun to refurbish the rooms one at a time but still keeping the historical feel.
With our booking, we received two free drink tickets for a beer or margarita. We also got two free breakfast vouchers (Original Grand Slam and coffee) for Denny’s, which is located inside of the hotel. The Denny’s is no longer open 24 hours though. The wait staff advised that it was due to the changes they made during COVID. Could eventually get back to normal when people decide they want to work again! We would stay here again. Lots of friendly people! Lots of character! And the price was reasonable. ($95.34 a night plus the $15 for our pups)
- TracieJun 16, 2022Nice atmosphere
The room was small but comfortable. Stanley got treats on the way in and at checkout. Small park one block away and a larger one a couple blocks away.
- MichelleJun 28, 2021Cool Hotel!
SO dog friendly! Booked room through BringFido and it was such a breeze. Very nice check-in, a couple free drinks and breakfast included, Dennys on premises, cute and funky historic hotel. Our room was very nice!
- ElliotApr 27, 2021Wonderful hotel with character.
Enjoyed my stay at this hotel. People were gracious, the room was nice, bed was super-comfortable.
