Bolt your door! Avoid unless no where else to go

A man was pounding on my door- twice at midnight. It happened the next morning also. It was terrifying and my dog barked incessantly. Jade, who works at the front desk, explained it was a guest who was “sleep walking”, then said he was “lost”. She was mystified that I was upset.

    Disappointment at Astoria Riverwalk

I won't waste time even going into details. Disappointed in this property. Would never stay here again. The one good thing I will mention is the check-in clerk was very friendly. The room was dirty, and I couldn't wait to check-out the next morning.

    Great Location And Very Accommodating

This hotel was very accommodating with the dogs! They gave our dogs welcome bags with dog treats and poop bags. There were no breed or weight restrictions and there was a max of 3 dogs per room. The dogs loved being able to go out on the balcony and enjoy the view as well. Would definitely stay here again :)

    Where to begin

So we made a reservation by calling. Web said a king pet friendly was available, but the person who answered said only 2 queens. Ok whatever.

We arrive and get to our room. Much of the hotel has been remodeled but not the pet friendly rooms. That’s fine- old carpet, old furniture- not ideal but ok. However, the floor and room in general were dirty dirty. And the room smelled not just like dogs but like pee. You can open the slider to the patio but it smells like nasty fish guts due to apparently near by fish processing.

We’re about to try to get some rest when going into the bathroom there’s a puddle. Looking up there is water dripping from the doorway.

So I called the desk and told them about the problem. To their credit, we got a different room right next door. Guess what? It was a pet friendly KING room. It had a busted screen door, cracks in the walls, and a quite slanted floor especially in the bathroom. The tv didn’t work, which I figured out was due to it being unplugged from the back of the tv. And it was filthy. Many dead bugs on the carpet by the window, and my hands got quite dirty fixing the tv. We also had a swarm of flies in front of our door all weekend- I think due to an open hole to a pipe acting as a water source.

As for pet friendly? Yes they allow dogs. The dog friendly rooms as mentioned are not at all renovated like the rest of the hotel but you’ll pay the same plus a pet fee. There is no pet area , nothing supplied to pick up after dogs, no grass unless you walk across a large parking lot to the sidewalk and no garbage cans to put anything in.

One star for an okay breakfast and the second rooms bed was fairly comfortable.

Oh and that first room with the ceiling leak- they put someone in it the next night. I can pretty much guarantee they fixed nothing.

Avoid this place. It is verging on dangerous.

The staff is first rate and helpful. Location was beautiful. We had a room that has not been renovated yet. We will stay here again and look forward to the motel’s complete renovation.

    Old Hotel Undergoing Renovations

It's obvious that this was an old hotel undergoing renovations (Oct 2017). The dining room was under construction when we were there, and some of the rooms had been totally redecorated and looked great on the website. At the time we stayed, we got a not-yet-renovated room, which was the only type that was dog-friendly. I think it was in the "riff raff" section since the other people staying around us seemed to be dock or ocean workers - the Port of Astoria is literally right next to the Inn. It was cool to walk around the port with the dogs and check things out. The room was ok, spacious, a little dated and undecorated, but had a balcony and view of the marina. Shower was underwhelming but that should change if remodeled. The lady at the front desk couldn't have been nicer, and there were free snacks all day and free breakfast. It was affordable and ok for what we wanted, and for the night that we were there.
