    Room searched while out

We got a room at LaQuinta Inn at N Myrtle Beach I noticed right away a horrible odor in the room. It made me start sneezing. My husband went and bought candles to try to kill the smell and I opened the window. As he came back with the candles he mentioned to the front desk there was an odor in our room causing my allergies to go full blown and as it was a smoke free motel he asked if it was ok to burn candles. He was told yes There was a gap at the bottom of the door and you could see people walk by which caused my dogs to bark so I threw some towels down in front of the door so they couldn't see activity in the hallway. We noticed the sheets were dirty and we wanted fresh clean ones. We pulled the sheets down so they would make the bed and called the front desk and requested that our room be cleaned while we were out. There was also a bag of trash was behind the bathroom door when we got there. He was told to take the do not disturb sign off the door. We did. When we got back several hours later I stepped on a paper on the floor that looked like it had been slipped under the door. But everything in both bags was out, some laying on the floor. Some stuff on the bed. Some on the dresser. I looked at the papers in my hand and it said it was a warrant. As I read it I discovered that they had called the police and our room had been searched. Apparently the housekeeper reported to the manager there was drug paraphernalia in our room and it smelled like marijuana smoke in there. The drug paraphernalia was the syringe that I have to use to give my little dog medicine and the smoke was from the candles. They made the bed but used the same sheets that were on it as the smae stains were in the same spot and picked up the towels in front of the door. We immediately decided we did not want to stay there as our privacy had been violated. We packed up and loaded the car. The clerk was not the one working that morning and could not answer our questions. She told me to call the manager in the morning. I did and she first told me housekeeping did not enter out room because the do not disturb sign was up. It was NOT up when we left It was laying on the floor inside and the bed had been made so they did enter our room. She then tried to tell me that it was a random drug check and that a dog had hit on our door. I told her that was not true as the papers the police left plainly said they were called to our room by management and there would have been no reason for a dog to hit on it. Then she tried to me that she smelled an odor coming from our room of smoke and noticed the towels at the door. When I tried to explain to her why the towels were down and why we had candles she laughed at me and then hung up on me. I called back. She told me to call the police department if I had a problem and told me to look up corporate number online. She refused to give it to me and hung up on me again. First the police were doing there job. They were called out, they responded, they found nothing as there was nothing to find and they left. Not mad at them. But my dogs medicine was all messed up as they obviously went through it with a fine tooth comb. My dirty laundry including underwear was on the dresser in front of the tv, not in the bag on the floor. I have never felt so violated. So in other words, the housekeeper claimed to have cleaned this room and when called out for not doing it she must have gotten upset, saw the syringe and smelled the blown out candles and decided to get revenge. If we were doing something we shouldn't have been doing we sure wouldn't have called and asked for housekeeping. I smoke cigarettes but not in non smoking places. I go outside. Too bad. We were loyal customers because of their dog policy. Just a heads up. LaQuinta will not confront you with an issue. They will call the law and put their guests at risk of arrest. They will open your door and let strangers go through your stuff. 36 hours later and I am still waiting for corporate to call me back.
